experience with Linksys RMA?

i have this Linksys wireless, 4 port router which after various attempts to troubleshoot and diagnose, is pretty much dead. not sure what happened. i checked Linksys' website for warranty information but this is what they wrote:

-------
Can Linksys determine if my unit is under warranty from the product serial number or my registration of the product?

No. Your product warranty depends on when you purchased your unit and whether you have a proof of purchase (receipt, invoice or packing slip). Linksys Technical Support requires your proof of purchase in order to verify your product is under warranty
-------

i have not called the tech support yet but this is not very encouraging. i got this router as a gift and how would i get a receipt, invoice, or packing slip? :|

does anyone have experience with RMA / support process with Linksys?

I hate their RMA !!!I am going to RMA a router with Linksys. Just like you, after attempts for a few times finally they email to me. In the email included a RMA form. We have to fill in all the details include resit. SO without a resit, i dont think u able to RMA it. That sucks isnt it?

I have used linkys's RMA service and it worked fine but then again I had my receipt. While I was doing research for warranty info I thought I remember reading something that said if you didn't have the receipt then the year would be based off of when the routers were made. Your best bet is to call or email and just ask them. Or if you really feel up to it you could buy a new router and copy the receipt then return it😉

go buy the same router at the store and package up the old one in the box and return it... it gets back to linsys this way and the store should be "re-imbursed" by linksys for the trouble....plus U can have the new router today.

btw, linksys sucks

gosh, such hassel to do rma...
guess buying in the stores and returning the bad one isn't a bad idea...
however, some stores may have serial numbers tied to the receipt..., not sure if they will detect that.

if linksys sucks, which would you recommend, Abzstrak?

thinking about switching to something better...

Netgear is kind of good reputation ... tried out netgear rt114. Not bad ...it just doesnt have the feature for me to filter out certain ports. Maybe gonna try out rt314 if is available in my local store.

if you want to stick to the cheap stuff, buy a netgear.... if you want to spend alittle more for a MUCH better product, I'd get some lower end sonicwall

checked couple companies aside from linksys, instead of 1 year warranty which they offered, dlink has 2 years, and netgear actually have 3 years warranty.
not sure about other ones but i'll do some more checking too..., sheeshes..., 1 year from linksys and they have to be an ass about it too? :|

ALstonLoong: Netgear sucks!!! recently my rt314 broke and have to do a RMA. called the 800 #, got a tech that know sh_t (level 1) tested a load sh_t of crap to get it work( no go), tansfered to lever 2 a little better still sh_tty (did all the test level 1 had me perform again). finally got a RMA. 2 weeks later got the replacement router( DOA) called back yelling (level 1 have me performed all sort of test to try to get it working). Transfer to level 2 (test again) RMA again. and the worse thing is they charge me twice for a return lable.

really ?? recently i bought a netgear ...performance not bad ...havent try RMA yet. My linksys not working any longer ...so i think i will just exchange it from my local retail store instead of RMA 😛

anyone feature out why linksys router is so hot ? After running games for several hours ...my linksys router is like a hot pad ! hahhaha

Personally, I've had great experiences with linksys products. My router has been running fine 24/7 since last october. The 6 linksys network cards I have also work fine. I don't really think its fine to say "linksys sucks" after a bad experience. Their RMA service might very well be terrible (I wouldn't know), but their products arn't. Chances are if you go out and get a different linksys router it will work just fine. As for having only a 1 year warranty, I don't see it as being that big of a deal. If it works for a year, it will probably continue to work. Sure, a 3 year warranty would be nice. But still, linksys isn't that bad.

well both linksys and netgear are hot after a period of use, but the rt314 is a little cooler than linksys. I guess metal casing is better than plastic. I think I could boil an egg on my linksys befsx41 🙂

Basing an opinion on a company on one single experience is a very bad idea.... I'll bet you that at least one person has had at least one bad experience with every single company out there...

I work with alot of small and medium sized business and have to recommend replacements for crap like linksys... If the company can afford it I always go cisco/3com/bay.... but sometimes they need cheap and netgear always fits the bill and hasn't failed me yet... Sure there has been a bad part here and there that must be replaced, but they dont overheat, or flake out on large transfers, or crap out when passing l2tp.....
