Watching this now... I love it. It's a mashup of every big star action movie of the last 30 years. All those movies I watched as a kid jack packed into every scene.

Yeah I'm late to the party - don't care. :colbert:

Yep... just wish there were more Chuck Norris scenes... but they said if they gave Chuck Norris more action, there won't be any more villans for Expendables 3.

Barely could finish this movie, the chuck norris intro was its worst part. Even expecting terrible cheese it was just barely, barely watchable.

It was an awful movie, the dialogue was terrible, and the best part is JCVD who is the only legit actor in the film aside from Jet Li. He would win a real fight with any other actor in the film except Jet Li. They should like... do a real movie together.

Before watching Expendables 2 I had a proven IQ of over 145 and was a leading nuclear scientist. Now I am a mediocre buffoon and speak to likewise mediocre buffoons on message boards when I should be sleeping.

You're pimping Hasbeenables while suggesting he's stupid? Holy cr@p, put the bud down and cut your fvcking mullet already.

I made no such suggestion - I believe the absoluteness of my statement was difficult to misinterpret... and what specifically do you have against mullets? I'll have you know Albert Einstein wore a mullet. :colbert:

"this stupid" is a relative statement.

I liked the expendables 2, it's supposed to be a brainless action movie taken right out of the 80's and it does it well.

if you don't like the movie then go watch your sparkly vampires. :colbert:

Trying to recall the "smart dialogue" 80's action movies that apparently all these people have seen that I haven't.

I liked Expendables 1, but some of the dialogue in 2 was pretty bad -- the "witty" banter trying to make fun of their 80s catchphrases didn't work for me at all. I'll still watch #3 though :)

Also, putting down their guns? Really!? Has that ever worked out well anywhere besides a Bond movie where they will place you into an elaborate yet easily escapable death trap and not bother to watch the results?

The first one was so fucking stupid it was unbelievable, and not in the "its mindless action" type of stupid, it was just plain moronic. It was actually annoying with Jet Li whining and the two UFC guys just arguing like shitheads the whole time. Also really hated that it was like a "Stallone and Statham show you how to be a real man" shit.

2 was marginally better, I loved them making fun of Dolph Lundgren being smart (although I don't know why he acted like he was on drugs or something the whole time). If they make a third it needs more Ah-nuld. I'm sure it'll have The Rock as well, maybe Vin Diesel too, maybe not though since they both seem like they'll be pretty busy.

Honestly, I think the worst thing about these films is Stallone. There's way too much focus on him and I just don't find the whole setup to be all that interesting. It would be better if they just completely ditched all of the stupid story and just make it literally like a straight hours worth of action. No stupid bar scenes, no "oh no we must avenge _____" none of that, just non stop crazy action.

The reason the movie focuses on Stallone is because HE is the one that started, produced, casted and maybe directed or have everything to do with the Expendables franchises.

The thing about the Expendables series, is that they don't quite reach the greats of yesteryear in quality.
Predator built Arnie by killing off his peers left and right.
The Punisher put Dolph into a bit of leather and cast him as one-man-army.
The one-man-army aspect is what's missing in Expendables, and apparently isn't really okay to do anymore. The last movie that went this approach - must have been Doom?

First that's a shitty explanation and if anything should show you why that's such a stupid idea, since the whole fucking premise was about them loading up with like every action star they could, so focusing on one of them is clearly not what people are paying to see (I know I sure wasn't, but then I just waited until they were both on Netflix).

Second, no he's not. Yes, he's the reason they happened and he was given I think writing and directing credits for the first one, but I think that's why that one was godawful. Stallone sucks at writing and directing. Its why JCVD turned down the first one, he thought the script sucked (which it did). He really didn't want to do the second one either IIRC, but he got goaded into it.

This is not comparable to any good 80's action movie. Not even close. Lockout and Dredd were more comparable.

The recent judge dredd was a genuinely solid movie. Lockout I remember less, but it was watchable.

for what the movie is supposed to be, it does it well enough for me to be entertained, though i thought a lot of the dialogue was worse in 2 than 1.

the chuck norris intro was probably the best part of the movie :D

Those complaining about dialogue need to go watch a chick flick FFS. This isn't "The Notebook". What are you, retarded?

I enjoyed the 1st Expendables, the 2nd movie was terrible. The actors just showed up to get the money.
