Expecting to much out of my 7800 GT OC???

I recently upgraded my CPU from a AMD 3500+ to a 3700+ and my video card from a 6800NU 128mb to a 7800GT. I haven?t really seen any major performance increase at all. I know the CPU wasn?t that much of an upgrade but the video card was a pretty big jump. Although my 3dMark05 score went from around 4000 to around 6000 the in game performance is lackluster. In Vampire bloodlines I am still only getting about 30 fps when I am in one of the open areas and FEAR is running kinda choppy. I am running it at 1024 X 768.
I used driver cleaner to get rid of the old drivers and installed the 81.85?s but I did not do a fresh install of windows XP. Do yall think that would help?
6000 in 3dMark05 is kinda low for a 7800GT I think. Also, I am not real sure how to set the right performance levels in the driver is there a site that explains what all the AA, AF...etc are? I tried to do a search on here but did not find much.

6000 for the 7800GT OC is low, so either there is a problem or 4xAA is enabled. You should get around 7400 with AA off.

This site did describe F.E.A.R. as "the most graphically demanding game yet" in their review. You may want to try it with AA disabled as that should almost double the framerate.

chipset drivers installed?

if they are, a complete reformat might be worth a try

Thanks for yalls replies. Yes, I have the latest chipset drivers loaded. I may just have to reformat.
Something I didn't think about that maybe causing the problem is that I am running a 480W power suspply 20pin with a 24pin adapter. I would have gotten a new one but after I upgraded my system it seemed to do fine so I didn't spend the extra money. Think that could be my problem?
