Intel has started a habit of changing socket every year since the first Nehalem, not to mention having several platforms running in parallel, so i'm wondering if tower heatsinks can be transferred to the new platform Haswell will be on.

i have the option to get a Noctua NH-C14, but i'm afraid it'll become obsolete if i cant slap it on the next socket (i'm not sure i'll be able to get a fitting mechanism in my country).

does anyone know if the brackets are compatible?

I think it is too soon to tell if the stock heat sinks from Ivy Bridge will fit on Haswell. That being said, I would be surprised if each of the major cooler makers didn't make a new bracket for their old models, there are no guarantees though.

Given that Haswell includes a fully integrated voltage regulator, it would seem a new socket is likely.

What the deal will be with coolers, who knows.

There will be a new socket called the 1150

Hopefully mobo makers will make it compatible like asrock and their 775 mounts

Noctua will give you a new bracket for free for the life of your heatsink. Just email them.

they will ship a tiny bracket overseas for free?
I'm not certain whether it'll be free but I do remember Noctua giving a free LGA2011 bracket if you show them the receipt.

Anyway, there is no certainty that LGA1150 will be compatible with previous LGA1156 or LGA1155 but I believe there might be a possibility that it would be compatible. Even with a socket change, it isn't necessary to change the hole spacing for each 4 corners as the socket is getting smaller, not bigger.

It is entirely up to the discretion of Intel and heatsink manufacturers to decide if they should change it. Should they decide to change it, heatsink manufacturers would be happy. :whiste:
