Existence of Celeron Centrino!??

I found commercial for something like this:
Celeron Centrino 1,3
256 Mb ram ...

and so on ...
I cant find the commercial at the moment.


So I wondered if this kind of processor exists. I surfed to www.intel.com and I found this.
Celeron M

There are two types of Celeron for portables ...
1) Celeron - 2.0 - 2,8 ghz
2) Celeron M 1,2-1,5 ghz

So Celeron M isn't CENTRINO. I can't find anyting that would confirm existance of Celeron Centrino. I think it doesn't exist.

Am I right?

The whole Centrino name thing is not a specific cpu from Intel. It designates a system with a Mobile Intel processor with centrino wireless technology (I think).

As far as I know there are only pentium M's, but it's very likely there are celeron M's as well, but don't be fooled by the centrino thing.

The Celeron M isn't part of the Centrino family but it is based off the Pentium M processor. It's basically a 1st Gen Pentium M (Banias core) built on the 130nm process with 512KB of cache vs 1MB.

Looks like a Banias with half the L2 cache, or a Dothan with 1/4 the L2 cache and a 100MHz FSB vs 533 for Dothan.
And at lower speeds.

While it sounds like a good idea on paper, the Celeron M also loses many of the power-efficient features of the Banias Pentium M. A notebook with a C-M has a shorter battery life than a similar one with a P-M.

Hypothetical question for you guys ... (might sounds lame but ... )

If I take Pentium (or Celeron) M and put it onto Intels 855 Chipset ... and I built-in a Wi-Fi MiniPCI ... then ... is this computer basically Centrino? (it has all components of it)

Dothan doesn't have a 533Mhz bus speed...yet. That comes later this year.

Centrino was defined as a intel pentium m processor, an intel chipest on the motherboard (only one at this point and forget what the name is) and an intel wireless card. I'm not sure if intel updated that to include the celeron m's when they released them or not. If they did then yes you could have a centrino with a celeron M processor in it.

Unless you actually bought an intel wifi card then no it wouldn't technically be a centrino system altho it doesn't really matter since it's just an advertising term.

It is 855GM chipset of Intel ...

In exact same offer I have mentioned, they have this chipset (855) and Celeron M. Wi-Fi card is option you can add, if you pay $50.

So if they put this WiFi card into the offer ... this will be Centrino?

According to Intel (and as mentioned above), a Centrino is a branding/marketing term for a laptop or tablet system with a Pentium M processor, an Intel 855 chipset, and an Intel 802.11b controller. But in our context, it's this redesigned Banias/Pentium M CPU that's important for being both battery efficient and speedy at low clock speeds. So why does the marketing matter? A Pentium M CPU, 855 chipset, and a wifi controller by a 3rd party works just as well as a Centrino system.

Nope, and it's not too important either since the Centrino term is marketing anyway.

Nope, the Centrino has to have a Pentium M inside. Besides, the Celeron M isn't that power-efficient.

I actually have a roll of those stickers. I put one on my desk. It is now a centrino system. Low power consumption, wireless, and a large work area.

Heh, could you send me one of those stickers? I got a new palmrest on my laptop and it's gone
