Which position of the exhaust tip looks better

  • With the opening flush to the fender (hella flush!)

  • Slash cut opening aimed downward

So I'm welding on a slash cut exhaust tip on the Rambler's single side exit exhaust. I'm trying to decide which it looks better. Disregard bondo and primered fender please.

Option 1 - Opening flush to the fender

Option 2 - Slash facing downward

I'm in a toss up over which I like better. Not that anyone is really going to notice or care though.

i like down better, don't know why though

I think it looks more stock that way. With slant cut tips that's how they're usually mounted as well. I thought I liked flush better but now that I've got the tip and I've mocked it up, not so sure. The flush kinda looks like a Harley motorcycle exhaust. Not so sure that works on a car.

Side exit was stock for this car so I'm with Jules on this. I went with the turned down look. Its all welded up and clamped on now.

That finishes off the exhaust. Still so much more work to go on floor pans. Slowly coming together though.

Thanks

It depends on if the inside of that tailpipe will be cleaned or not. Since sideways you will see the inside and pointed down you will not see the inside, the obsessive detailer in me will want to clean the inside of the tailpipe every time I detail the car if it's pointed sideways.

No need to clean the inside if it's pointed down, you won't see the inside.

Those are great, especially if you ever accidentally back up to a hill and smash your exhaust system up your engines ass.

Say what? How does the exhaust being shorter make it easier to damage?

And FWIW I didn't know the Rambler had a stock exhaust like that. I was just thinking more of the general muscle car 'look' and out-facing pipes never have any chance of looking right to me unless they angle down a bit and dump in front of the rear tire.

Yup. Out the right side and downward.
