So I'm in the Air Force, and we have to do PT 3 times a week. Well, yesterday had a choice of doing circuits inside or running 1.5 miles. I went with running... big mistake. It was like 30 degrees out and by the time I got home I felt like total crap was shaking the whole rest of the night (in a 80ish degree room) and my chest felt like it'd cave in. Chest still hurts a bit today, but not all too bad.

Lesson of the day: Don't run in freezing weather! (atleast use caution I assume some people can do it fine)
 
what were you wearing?

I don't like running in the cold but 30 degrees should really phase you as long as you are dressed appropriately.

at sub 15 it gets bad but at 35 I can get by fine with a long sleeve tshirt and warm ups

if you were wearing a t-shirt and shorts I could see that happening though

or it could have been alot colder than you thought it was

I'm in central alabama the ice from rain water collected in ash trays was partially melted when I left work had to be somewhere +-32 degree. I was wearing and jacket and long pants with lining + t shirt shorts under it.
 
Meh, you're just not used to it. Running in the cold is fine as long as your fingers and face don't literally freeze. Just make sure you have at least one sweat wicking layer on your upper body.
 
I haven't run in quite a bit, but I ran in 40F weather today and my hands hurt quite a bit. I'll grab some gloves and be fine. You'll adapt to the cold after a bit of training in it.
 
My main problem is my chest hurting from breathing the cold air deeply. I don't have this problem with my ski mask on, but I can only wear it if I keep my exertion level way down. I have 0 problem with being out in the cold. Last night, I shoveled snow out of my driveway when it was 0°. I was outside for about an hour and rather enjoyed it. Granted I bundled up a lot, but once I warmed up I pulled my facemask down and unzipped my jacket.
 
30 is not that cold. I ran some 12 miles in ~20 degree weather with a good headwind on the way back and I was pretty scared that I got frostbite on the little guy. D:

Side note, has anyone heard of a "running cup" for cold weather??
 
You're not acclimated to it. I have no problems running in 100F heat, but it'd make most people pass out after a 100 meters.

When I active duty USAF, we had people screw up on the 1.5mi run all the time. They'd post 15min to 17min times and think it was good and wonder why they got almost no points. Pathetic.

Lol, I'm usually sub 11 minutes. Not great, but well within the limits. My body was warm; it was the breathing. I've had pneumonia before and it almost kind of felt like that in a less severe way... so I have no intention of attempting to become acclimated.
