It means we must have the industries within the US to support our needs for defense. We can not source critical components solely from foreign governments.

This doesn't appear to be much more than an update from a 1944 EO. Back then we didn't have a DHS so it updates it.

The best summary of this i've seen is at Hot Air. No big deal, don't get excited about it. It's worth a read if you are concerned.

Again, this is nothing new or outside of existing statutory authority — and the EO makes that clear by explicitly citing that authority. All this does is delegate the authority for these actions to the Cabinet officials. This again is nothing new, just a delegation of existing authority.

Looks like at least part of it will start reconstituting the National Defense Stockpile (stocks of critical materials like metals, rubber, chemicals, etc) and means of production.

A lot of the stockpile was sold off in the 90s after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Oh see I did. I commend you for being honest. That being said there are more posts than just your own.

argggh and my knee jerk reaction was the same as yours, just opposite. I need to stop doing it, it's just one of my major faults. ty for your commend.

no worries folks, there is no way this has anything to do with predictions of commodity shortages or hyperinflation of commodity prices

no worries

What is the worst that could happen?

None of this would be necessary if we simply changed the laws of war to require we fight in our underwear.

I suspect this is merely cover to justify protectionism of certain key industries. But either way, I support it. I'd certainly support rebuilding the NDS as well. Better by far to have and not need than to need and not have.
