Exchange server alternative

Im looking for an exchange server alternative that will work with outlook I need it for backing up emails and email fowarding. Does anything exist? It also has to run on 64bit windows server 2008
 
There are Exchange alternatives. One of the people I work with uses Kerio. But I do not understand "I need it for backing up emails and email fowarding". What do you mean?

Exchange server has a backup of all our emails stored on it. And it also goes out and grabs for example a service@ourdomain and forwards it to 3 people I guess I should have said distribution groups
 
I'm afraid I don't understand the question, either.

Is this for business or personal use?
How many users? How much email?
Where does your email come from now?
If you have an Exchange Server already, why are you looking for an alternative?

Exchange is not a backup solution, it's a mail server. You still need to do backups of exchange or any other solution you use.
