Exchange not found when resolving on client

Very strange problem.....ladies system has no explorer.exe coming on, actually, when it's ran, the task bar pops up for a millisecond.....can only do ctrl-alt-del....

Anyways, on Win2k, I reinstalled the OS right over the old, and now everything works, except one thing....

Outlook 2003 says it can't find the exchange server, the name, when you try to 'check name' in the mail icon when i was setting up her email account.....you can ping the exchange server, by ip or name, wins / dns are both enabled....this lady can access her mail with the web access feature from the same computer.....tried uninstalled Outlook 2k3 / reinstalling, before that did repair.

She can log into the system right next to this one and we can delete her email account and set it up again....works fine.

When we installed win2k again, I installed sp4 and all relavant updates from windows update.

Hard drive passed check disk.....no errors in event logs.

She has a bunch of critical apps, wouldn't want to wipe it if possible, any suggestions? Thanks in advance,

Dog
