Exchange 2000

Alright. Currently we run groupwise 5.5 - I just got in all the disks microsoft sent me for exchange 2000 (they sent me exchange 5.5 disks as well? why is this?) anyway the server I install exchange 2000 on.. does it have to be a domain controller? I would prefer it not to be. I know you have to be logged on an account with Schema Admins permissions, but does the machine itself need to be a domain controller?

Unless something has changed with Exchange 2K, you don't need to install it on a domain controller. In fact, you're probably better off not installing it on a DC - Exchange is plenty of overhead. You do, however, need to install it on a member server that is part of a domain - It doesn't play well with workgroups.
