Walking a full 18 holes in 88 degree weather while carrying your clubs up and down all of the hills of the course is excersise! Right or Wrong?

Wuss. Try sprinting up a large, steep hill with a 120 lb chick hanging onto you piggyback style. :Q

It is exercise. Golf courses are also, what 7000 yards? So 4+ miles? And that is not in a straight line either. So, 5 or 6 miles maybe? Add 20 pounds for clubs and bag.

Yes, it is a workout. Much like going on a long hike.

It is mild excercise, but it isn't useful excercise. The weights aren't enough to build much muscle. The walking with many pauses isn't enough to strengthen your heart. But yes if you wanted to get moving, golf is a start.

5 miles is a pretty short hike.

I know when I'm done 18 holes, I'm pretty pooched and ready for a :beer:. I consider it a workout but won't argue that it isn't - pickup hockey gets my blood flowing, heart pumping, and I sweat out a pound or two while playing. So I know the difference between golf and an intense workout.

it doesn't matter what the temp is, walking 18 holes is great exercise. courses can be over 4 miles long. most people i know don't walk 4 miles a day, not to mention carrying a load on them

It's only exercise if you don't bring a cart, don't stop to hit the ball, and don't drink beer at the clubhouse afterwards.

walking while playing golf is excellent excercise. As noted later, its probably 5 miles plus and you are carrying weight (bag and clubs) for much of that time. While you wont get huge and ripped muscles, it will help w/ muscle mass. Walking this distance will help your heart, but more importantly, it will burn calories so you can get in better shape.

probably burn 800-1000 calories playing 18 holes walking.
