The more I think the about it, the more upset I am that Bradley Cooper was snubbed at The Oscars on Sunday.

Hear me out. I know Cooper did not portray the kind of character or take on the kind of role that the snobs in Hollywood typically care for--it didn't fit the tradictional "Best Actor" mold. There was lots of violence in the film; he spent most of the movie brandishing a gun, and yes the character was portrayed as something of a superhero in a situation with much bigger political issues at play that the movie only grazed.

But his sensitive portrayal of the scars his character endured--both physical and emotional--brought an unexpected pathos to a character who could have otherwise have easily just been a cartoon character. Yes, he used a firearm. Yes, his partner was a little wooden. Yes, the accent was a little distracting at times. But none of those things should have disqaulified Cooper from gaining the well-deserved recognition for breathing such life into a character that enthralled us all.

You know it. I know it. Deep down in their hearts, the Oscar voters know it. This year's best performance was Bradly Cooper as Rocket Raccoon.

The joke has a little bit too much build up but the punchline is :awe: awesome... especially when you consider that voice performance for Rocket Raccoon was arguably one of the better ones heard in quite a long time.

......

Gotta be a joke, Cooper wasn't even the best voice actor in that film. Vin Diesel stole the entire movie as Groot. In the history of Hollywood nobody has even been a better tree, that alone is worth an Oscar.

You're starting to sway me... so much said with so few words... especially when

Groot made a shield out of himself to protect the others during the crash
:'(

Seriously why does anyone care about the Oscars? They're meaningless and have a long history of being shit. The entire thing is a fucking farce. Voting on it is (seriously most of the voters likely have not seen half the films they're voting on, and some likely have not seen any of them). The whole spectacle is absurd (bunch of people dress up basically to hawk wares for people, it's more about marketing dresses and shoes and phones for selfies than it is about anything).

I don't watch them or give two craps about them either. Unfortunately you and I appear to be in the minority.

Third. Didn't even realize they were on.

I think this is one of those vestigial things, where it's like it's a tradition. Which, isn't all bad, I think discussion of movies (and art in general) is a good thing, and it's nice to offer recognition for some, especially from those in the industry that would know how it operates and what it takes to create a finished film of quality. But that's not really what the Oscars are, they're just the results of marketing pushes, selection committees, and bureacracy, and a whole host of other nonsense. Like why is it that just now women are going, "wait, why the fuck are you asking me who designed this dress or my shoes, why aren't you asking me something that fucking mattered for why I'm supposedly here?" (granted some of them are there because of looks).

But I think more than anything it's in the obvious. If they were serious about this, the studios would go out of their way to make it easy (cheap and easy to access) for everyone to see these alleged works of art (after all, that's what this is about) and then form their own opinion or have them be discussed. Instead of spending who knows how much money marketing them, a week or two before the awards, put them on Netflix, Youtube, and anywhere else they can, and let people see them. That will garner them the real recognition they should be worthy of. That will incite real discussion of their merits.

😀

Every single award show is a ridiculous farce.

Can you name another occupation that pats itself on the back as much as entertainment (movies, tv, music)? Every fucking week there seems to be an award show. And this doesn't include all of the lesser awards that you wouldn't know about if it wasn't for Wiki.

Seriously, do you have any proof of this?

It might be better to just not watch something you don't like, than to make up hyperbolic crap.

I'm with you too. I watched them in 2014 only because Seth MacFarlane was the host. Wanted to see what a guy who doesn't give a rat's a** about tweaking celebs would do. I thought his 'I saw your boobs' song was great. Loved seeing the reactions on all those stuck up spoiled brat's faces.
