yea, the coding that ati has done has been spectacular. With dual cores, a X850XT is better than the 7800GT now.

actually, if you look at the benchmarks here that used the 5.12 ATI drivers and the 81.89 Nvidia drivers, the performance between the 7800GT and X850XT is pretty close depending on the game. With the 5.13 driver, the X850XT is faster or similar to the 7800GT depending on which games.

yea it will get a boost since even the x700 gets a little boost and your XL is a lot better than the x700.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part since I'm still running a single core, but I'm going to need some proof (these websites never compare singles to duals in any of these benchmarks) that these gains are due to dual core processors. I bet maybe 10% of these gains are because of dual cores. Maybe.

May have to eat my words above... Unless new drivers just don't like my x800GTO if the gains on web site are real maybe dual core has more to do with it- I just switched drivers and only gained 30 points in 3D Mark 05 and basically zilch in Bf2- was hoping for more- (kicks himself for not buying dual core CPU). Ah well, something to look forward to. Anyone with a duallie bench these new drivers yet?

You gotta admit from those benchs the X1800XL and for that matter the 7800 GT and others look like worthless upgrades when compared to the much lower cost of a X850XT which as I understand easily overclocks to PE speeds.

Considering the GTO is supposed to overclock that fast, if all do and it is easy, then it would be the price performance king right now. Heck my X800XL was beating the X1800XL in AOE. Something just does not seem right about that but I have definatly learned one thing. There are only three cards out right now that I could consider a single card upgrade. The X1800XT, the X1900XT, and the 7800 GTX 512. I dont think the differences I see in the above benchs would warrant a upgrade at those costs. The best thing I could do is probably sell my 800 and add the difference to get a X850XT, which I just may do :)

Nifty!

Btw - dfloyd - the X1800XL and 7800GT both overclock like champs, so it's not a totally wasted upgrade. Plus the X800 doesn't have SM 3.0, while the aforementioned cards do. But there's no question the 16-pipe X800 cards were great performers and still are excellent cards to this day.
