It really is interesting to see what ATI can do with driver tweaking over the past year and performance has been amazing in some places. The latest drivers are fantastic as we can see the performance on a lot of benchmarks is quite impressive. ATI has really begun to make use of the Dual Core technology that AMD and Intel are offering.

Spoiler: As a Christmas gift from ATI's driver team, those with cards that perform similar or better than the X850XT (includes X1000 series although it's not listed on the site) would get a HUGE boost.

Holy ******! Look at the huge increase with 5.13 driver on the x850xt. I wonder if the x1800 cards will benefit similarly?

What a huge improvement in Farcry! 60fps -> 80fps over the last 2 driver revisions.

yup, any ati card that performs similar or better than the X850XT (includes the X1800 series) would have a huge performance gain

btw, you might not get as good as a performance boost since these drivers (5.12 and 5.13) are multi-threaded. I'm not sure if the performance boost from the 5.12 to the 5.13 is optimizations or better coded for multi-threaded (dual cores). Nevertheless for people who own dual-core (like me :D), you would get an extra boost.

well, i'm not entirely sure that the boost from 5.12 to 5.13 is better coded multi-threaded or optimizations. If it's optimizations, then the boost would be for everyone including those with single core.

Can someone with a single core just check their fps difference from 5.12 to 5.13?

I might do that....maybe (gotta wrap presents :( )

Nice. Does this only benefit from dual core systems, or do all x850-level cards benefit even with single core procs using the new drivers?

I'm curious too...(owns x850xt "heads explodes")

well, i can confirm that i got a nice boost with this driver on a dual-core system.

I just did a few quick tests on CS:S and 3dmark with 5.11 and then updated to 5.13 and did the same.
This was done on an opteron 144 @ 2.7 and an x1800xl @ 555/558.

5.11:
03:15352
05:8187
CS:S:147.55

5.13:
03:15390
05:8189
CS:S:143.46

hmmmm, if those scores are right, too bad to all those who got single core. At least you that updating to dual core is as good as updating gpu performance now.

Hmm so us with a X800XL get crap nadda zilch.

Come on Ati, I am not a rich guy, all I need is a few say ten extra fps on the low end in a couple games like BF II and Fear and I will be happy. Instead you just leave me out in the cold shivering. :(

im sure you will get a boost with an XL you just need to get a dual core GPU. These don't seem to help us single core core much at all.

Ahh ok so its more to do with Ati really tweaking the drivers to take advantage of dual core. Ahh well, still going to be a while before I can consider that route. Was going to go video card next, up to like a 7800 GT or something. Would prefer Ati for the image quality I have gotten used to but since Ati doesnt really have a compareable card to the GT (Maybe they do and I just dont know it) at its price range (Have seen them for as low as $280) I was going to go that route.

But sounds like CPU may be the route to go with some huge increases on the new drivers, then wait for next gen of video cards.

Hmm I wonder. But thanks again for info friend.
