The RIAA also said that the total value of music shipments for all formats had fallen from a high of nearly $14.6 billion in 1999 to $12.6 billion in 2002.

$2 billion down, $12.6 billion to go.

Um, GDP did not decline 36 % in 2002. They might want to check their facts there.

I think they were referring to the stock market, but you're right!

I'm sorry but I do not have the extra resources to support such an undemocratic group such as the RIAA, the artists the they represent or those who earn their livelyhood from there business practices. Capitalism that enriches those who control the disriburion of the product more than those who produce said product is nothing short of foul and should be opposed by any means possible when it comes to the Arts!

I'm so sick and tired of seeing millionaire artists and the middle men lining their pockets. I agree that the artists should be paid, but I don't want to hear them bitching about not being able to afford a new mercedes thanks to music piracy. Maybe 1% of artist fit this category, but guess who gets all the play on the radio and MTV? It sure as hell isn't some extremely poor emerging artist. I would like to know where those billions of dollars go. It sure as hell isn't in most artist pockets. Fvck the RIAA and fvck the millionaire "artists", the only thing they are good at is marketing. Music be damned, we want the sale. The internet is quite possibly music's hope and saving grace. Finally those artists who don't have a contract with the big 5 can be heard.
