I wonder how a 7800gs will perform compared to a 6800Ultra. Also will give a good comparison how much more efficient the g70 core is as to nv40.

According to the review, its faster than the X850 XT which is faster than a 6800 ultra. However the 7800GS seems to be performing quite clsoe to a X1800XL. Like maybe 5% within the X1800Xl which is making it stand out as a 299ish card.

And the OC on it makes it perform like a 7800GT stock....but that 3dfuzion $289 7800GT still wins for the ultimate bargain....but I'll keep my eVGA 7800GT if anyone asks.

SLi WILL BE worth it. The power consumption will be really LOW, heat will be low due to the fact GTs hit 65ishC at load this card might hit 50C at load? :)

I wouldnt mind getting 7800GS SLi.

If the power comsumption is a lot lower, then it'd be good, but considering the clock speed isn't much lower than the GT (375MHz core versus 400Mhz) disabling four pipes won't make a huge difference to power consumption - consider than the core is only 50MHz off the 6800GS, and has more pipes, and that card uses not much short of the 7800GT on power (only a few watts) then the GS will unlikely be a 'lower power consumption' champion. The card will also still likely hit the mid to high 50's on load at least.

ok, help me out here. wtf are they trying to say in this antec review:
24 pin ATX cable which can be changed to a normal 20pin cable incase your motherboard doesn?t have enough distance between the 20pin ATX connector and the 4pin connector. There is also an extra 4pin ATX connector if the motherboard connector is really far.

:Q
:p

Looks like Nvidia is flooding the market with cards this generation, and it's going to pay off for them. The 7800GS is a very attractive, and occupies the niche that the X850XT PE had before.

Last generation ATI was the one going product crazy with the X800 Pro, X800XL, X850Pro/XT/XTPE. Now Nvidia is doing the "new card at every $50 price incriment," and they've got some attractive cards with the 6800GS, 7800GS, 7800GT/GTX/GTX512.

I think the saturate every possible price point is going to be a common place thing soon, although it runs the risk of killing one product it can create some cards with great price/performance that sell really well. Really I don't care how the companies go about it as long as at least one good price/perfonance card exists.

Sorry, but I dont think AT's review is "Excellent". Sure its many times better than that other crap linked. But I wouldnt call a review that doesnt even use AF (among other things), "Excellent".

Derek posted this in the comments section:

Sorry, most of our tests were run with AF enabled (8x in most cases).
The only test that did not include AF was the Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory test with out AA (the 4xAA test also included 8xAF).
Thanks, Derek Wilson

Like xtknight said.

Anyhow, who buys a $300+ card to run 3dmark05? :disgust:

NGOHQ... banning anandtech is so elementary.
