Excel Trick: Secret Spy Hunter Game

By performing a numbing number of steps in Excel 2000 you can play the secret Spy Hunter game. This is one of the best Easter Eggs any programmer has ever snuck into an application. Here's what you do:

Open Excel.

In a blank worksheet, select File, Save As and choose "Web Page" using the Save As Type drop-down arrow.

Click on Publish and check the Add interactivity checkbox.

Click the "Open published page in browser" checkbox and press the Publish button.

Go all the way to row 2000, column WC. This will take a while.

Highlight row 2000 by clicking on the 2000 row heading.

Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift keys and click the Office icon. Spy Hunter will start.

How to play:

Use the arrow keys to steer the car
Use the space bar to shoot
Use the "O" key to drop oil slicks
Use the "H" key to turn on your headlights

I tried it, it does work. Pretty nifty...well, back to my budgeting homework...🙁

BTW, does anyone know the shortcut to alternate between CAPS and lowercase in Excel? I type in like 30 things and now decided that they shouldnt have been CAPS...😱

And people wonder why microsoft products have so many defects and security holes. I'm sure the programmer had the proper code reviews prior to including this in the build...

Use the lower() function on the cells then copy and paste the results as values.

Yeah... If I remember correctly, this one has a bunch of the programmer names on the road. I wish Bill Gates would write down those names and fire the losers that sabotaged Office.

Most microsoft easter eggs are pretty cool. I remember the one in word 98 that you could play pinball with. High school was saved only for that reason 😛

eh, I just retyped everything before I saw your post, but I'll make a note of it for future reference...thanks 😀

Why do I need to go to column WC if I'm going to highlight the entire row 2000?

Bah, "Open published page in browser" opens netscrape here at work.

you gotta make sure column WC is lined up right next to the left edge of the window, you shouldnt be able to see WB or WA, just WC and on

Does not work for me.
For one thing, there is no WC column.
Ignoring that and clicking the office Icon still does nothing, if I am clicking the correct "office icon."
I am clicking the one in the upper left with the excel logo.
Nothing else seems to be an office icon.

I can't get to column wc, mine ends at IV. After that is just gray space.

Make sure your using the spreadsheet that you just published into the web browser.

I have Office 2K SR-1 and its not working....

If you have Flash MX, there's an easter egg in the About screen. The "crotch" of the X in "MX" is clickable... to open up many many games ... very tough to find the pixel that allows this though. I've only been able to do it once.
