Ok, here's the scoop fellas.
There's a few clients who are experiencing the same problem, mainly IBM laptop users. The OS is Win95 with Office97 (SR2). This one fellow's laptop has been reimaged (Ghosted). As far as I know, or as I was told, when the HD was reimaged it mainly deleted and overwritten existing system files on the previous OS (also a Windows 95 machine).
Before the machine was ghosted, there were also other people's profiles in the system. After the reimage, those profiles still existed?
On to a more important matter is the fact that the user has numerous excel template files (*.XLT). Let me tell you the file association is the wonkiest I've ever seen. The template file may be name "this is a test.xlt", with a space in between each word. Now when you go file open under excel it will open just fine. BUT, when you goto Windows Explorer and go to the path and double click on the template file, excel will try to open each individual word as its own (*.xls) file, with the last word being an *.XLT file instead. So for example it will try to open consecutively this.xls, then is.xls, then a.xls, then finally test.xlt
An even weirder thing is that when you go to Windows Explorer and show all file extensions, then goto "this is a test.xlt" and remove the extension XLT and then double click on it it will work just fine!!! WTHeck?!?! The icon turns from being an that of an excel file to that of a generic blank paper
It is not possible (well too much of a hassle really as the files are shared) to replace the space with an underscore because others have already created shortcuts to their desktop.
Is their a known bug with the excel program that I'm not aware of that you guys can enlighten me about?? I'm scratching my head and don't really know how to resolve this. Looking at MS Technet right now....
If you guys have a clue, please lend a hand, much appreciated
Plucky
