Excel saving backups! Please make it stop

This may just be a minor gripe, but...I don't like it at all.

I'm working in excel and I save the file, and in the folder where I saved, not only is there the file that I just saved, but an identical file that says 'backup of file.xls'

HOW do I disable this??
