Excel Live Document

I'm pretty familiar with Excel but I have a project that needs to have multiple people access the same spreadsheet to make daily changes and they will not necessarily be in the same location. Now if the spreadsheet were really simple I'd be tempted to use Google Docs spreadsheet for this reason, but since the spreadsheet will have more sophisticated features like lookup tables I'd really prefer to use Excel except I don't know how to do this with multiple users.

To be more specific, we are doing a $40M installation of automation equipment and I'm looking for a way to have the site leads update the task status and be able to monitor this from a remote location. That is, we may have as many as half a dozen leads updating their portion of the work as often as every few minutes but probably averaging a couple times per hour. All the leads will have internet access so the spreadsheet, the main document at least, would not necessarily be on each laptop but in a central remote location.

So, how can I do this with Excel so that changes made by all the leads are synced up in the main spreadsheet?
