Excel, excel, excel......oh how thou frustrates me......

Just wanna throw out yet another gripe about spreadsheets....(excel specifically).

Google docs has made my spreadsheet life so much easier, but even Google spreadsheets aren't always logical, just improved.

I just can't wait 'til the day we can tell the computer where we want #'s, text, formatting to go and how to do it and it can just DO IT!!!

Formatting, reformatting, losing formatting, redoing, clearing, researching how I did that one thing I did 2 months ago, kicking, pissing, bitching and moaning...........I just get sooooo tired sometimes of having to rework on work I've already wasted waaaay too much time on already.

Are you sure that you're using the right tool for the job?
Granted you can do a lot with Excel, but then you can do a lot with a hammer, even insert a screw into a wall if you hit it really hard....

If you're so concerned with formatting and text vs. numbers and so on, in conjunction with vectors / columns / tables of input data, perhaps something like a database and a customized formatting report user interface on the database, or so?

There's a lot you can do with such tools that exceeds what I'd want to try with Excel.

redgtxdi you're right. Software is hard. It sucks in so many ways. Too bad too many people are too busy rah rah rah cheerleading for quad-core and multi core and vista to worry about improving this. Look into Wirth's treatise on bloat, or perhaps Dijkstra's ranting EWD style papers are more your style.
