Exactly how limited are the OC options on an ECS 755-A2?

The Fry's combo comes with that ECS mobo.
Exactly how limited are they? Will any OCing be possible? I don't really OC, but an option for it, even if it's limited, would be nice?

Is the OCing capability limited because of a lack of controlling voltage, FSB, etc? Or is it because the board just can't really handle it?

Niente. Nada. Nix. Rien. Semmi.

Oh, you can tweak the base clock up, the RAM voltage can be increased up to 2.65V, and there's a RAM clock limiter that lets you restrict RAM clock to below 100, 133, 166, or 200 MHz. (Actual MHz, not silly DDR-doubled marketing "MHz")

ECS boards traditionally are made to work well at stock speeds, no nonsense, no silly bells and whistles, and hence, a rock bottom price.

For the same money, you'll be just as fast and more stable buying the ECS board and a faster CPU than when going with the expensive board and a slower CPU and then overclocking that.

I had one of those for a while and if I remember right it was limited because it had not voltage control, multiplier control. I think one of the only things it has was FSB control.

I have it. You cant change the cpu multiplier, only the clock speeds. And Peter is right with the ram.

I have it as well for a dedicated SETI cruncher. It is a nice board, the nicest I'd seen until I got the PT800CE-A. I have a bunch of ECS boards and all are from Fye's. I am a sucker for their sales! 🙂

I know the K7S5A had a modded BIOS out for it and you could also use SpeedFan to bump up the clock speeds. No such luck with the 755-A2?

755-A2 modded bios
I found this just now. I don't really think I trust it, as it's made by some guy who says hes just "fiddling around" with unlocking this stuff. Here's what it says is now available:

"1. Unlocked the Vcore. 1.5 volts to +.75 mV should now selectable.

2. Hammer FID control Unlocked.

3. Hammer VID control unlocked.

4. 1T/2T now selectable.

5. 300 and 500 mhz HT speeds now selectable (might show as 1.5 and 2.5 under the HT menu)

6. HT speeds unlocked the 2 bit, 4 bit, and 32 bit options.

7. ACPI function now able to be enabled or disabled. (you will have to reinstall your OS if you mess with this)

8. All Voltages are now displayed in PC health status."

I've read some things that you shouldn't increase the HT speeds at all. But you can give it a try. The extra voltage you can put on the cpu should help in the overclocking. Especially if you have a slower 64 already, like me (3000+).

Whats the so called frys "deal" 99% of the time mwave.com bundles are cheaper and you get a real motherboard.

The board price has just been lowered to 45 euros at my retailer (1 euro = 1.35 USD). The savings buys a CPU speed grade or two, even w/o overclock 😉
