Around $1-$2K was run up on it. Was told she'd pay me back.

When you give something to someone, the minute it exchanges hands without a
written, signed and notarized deal, youre done.

Aggravated and done.

And pwned.

Sucks, but yeah losing 1 or 2 grand over your lifetime isn't bad at all. I got a distant aunt overseas that lost over 10k.

I assumed you took her to court and lost? Sorry to hear that.

I didnt, waste of time, you'll get laughed out of any court, small claims or otherwise.

You HANDED it to the person, you have no claim to it anymore.

Legal threats or taped conversations are useless too.

Hang it up, life lesson.

pwned, simply pwned.

I disagree with the "emails are inadmissable" contention.
I *dare* anyone who disagrees with that to send an email to the President, threatening him. Or, send an email threatening to blow something up. Go ahead, do it.

If it comes down to "he said, she said", I tend to think there *is* a chance the judge might rule in your favor.
And, perhaps the mere threat of small claims court might move your ex to pay you.

In fact, I believe I just read a thread in this forum about an auto-mechanic who had a contract via email and phone. If you have some sort of email, depending on the wording, it may in fact be sufficient to serve as a contract.

I think it's at least worth pursuing... what does small claims court cost you?
