I was very suspect on the whole selection process.

It may in fact been a ruse all along to mask the fact they were going to use this kid's design to begin with.

I in fact submitted a design. It was simple. Two identical towers but only at 109 "Official" floors.

I reservered the 110th floors for the 3,000 that will always occupy them.

I never got any response back from the committee, nothing, nada.

If they stole his design, doesn't he have a right to sue them? What part of this am I missing?
 
This is the first I've heard of this, but I can't rule this one out. From the plaintiff's claims, it is quite likely that he will be able to completely document his case. Drawings from the school contest, the fact the winning architect saw the student's designs, etc.
I fail to see how he is an idiot for suing for this theft if it is valid.

And I don't like the chosen design either.

I never got a position reaction when the design competition thread was going, odd.

Hell, they could've even added on a windmill/lattice/Antenna spire to the top of the 109/110 design to reach the 1776 feet like they have done with this Freedom tower but they would've still remained looking very much like the original towers with an added fitting touch.

As usual someone's own personal opinion and thought won out over everyone else.

1) Yup, his career is over with. That is agreed.

2) He won't win. That's like suing someone for building a colonial house just because they put shutters on it. That was my idea, damn it!

Why didn't he sue upon seeing hte design that was selected for construction? Why did he wait for construction to begin? I mean if he is upset over his design being "stolen".

I don't know...I'd rather not specculate. I just think, in our society, it's wrong to use someone's work without paying them for it. I don't know enough about the details here to say for certain what exactly happened, but I get this sense because it's the "Freedom Tower" people could care less if it was his design or not. I could be wrong though.
 
The Freedom Tower depresses me. I cannot see how it ever got approval. The design is completely stupid to put in a site that will now be regarded like the Washington Monument as a significant piece in American History.

Donald Trump even said that he hates the new design and that it craps (not his words) on New York's skyline. He said it will look out of place. I very much so agree with him.

Nothing would ever speak for the endurance, defiance, and reverence of the American people as rebuilding the towers stronger, higher, and more substantial. I don't see how this new glass shard will do anything to remember the lives that were lost. IMO, a good memorial would be one that could withstand a nuclear blast, show how America came together and forgot partisan politics for a year, and show that the terrorists accomplished nothing but to make America stronger.

Put the towers back up - and make it be known that all of those involved will not be forgotten. IMO, a 1776-foot gardens makes about as much sense as a bottle of soda that won't fit in the refrigerator.

The main building part is only I believe 83 stories but the building is not as narrow as the towers were, then there is a massive windmill farm (will produce a lot of electricity for the building) that reaches to nearly the height of the Petrona towers. Then there is a massive antenna tower/spire to reach 1776 ft.

It's too late for them to go to another design now. By waiting, he ensured he'd be able to collect if he won. If he complained at first, they might've just gone to another design.

That's interesting. 1776ft? Freedom tower would be a fitting name.
 
United architects should have won that contest...or the Holl/Meier/Eisenman/Gwathmey design, even if it was a little out of place.

I kinda like the Freedom Tower design. I loved the towers, but two tall boxes weren't all that dazzling or original. I don't see it as crapping on the skyline... it should stand out.

However, every concept I've seen for the actual memorial blows. There doesn't seem to be any reference of who committed the acts and why.
