Ex-Raiders QB Russell arrested on Ala. drug charge
(AP) – 12 minutes ago

MOBILE, Ala. — Alabama authorities say former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has been charged with possession of codeine syrup — a controlled substance — without a prescription.

Mobile County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles says the 24-year-old former LSU star was arrested Monday afternoon at his home during an undercover investigation. He graduated from high school in Mobile.

Online records show he was booked into the Mobile jail and released on $2,500 bond.

Weird. How often do you see someone arrested for codeine syrup?

Lol, I think that's a felony. My friend was 18 sitting next to me in HS with his felony for prescription drugs.

Really, an undercover drug sting for codeine. Thats about as fucking worthless waste of resources, Coach purses are more useful towards society. What a fucking joke.

Yeah, I'm not sure codeine abuse is one of our society's big problems. I have half a bottle of it in my kitchen (legally, mind you). I've never really thought, "Hey, I want to get, messed up, time to drink some cough syrup"

I thought you could only get it (in small amounts) as an ingredient in aspirin/Tylenol up there?

I don't know about cough syrup in other countries, but you can get smallish amounts of codeine mixed with Tylenol (or maybe other ingredients too?) in many countries. I believe it's typically a lowish amount of codeine, like 7 - 15mg. For addicts this isn't much of a problem, a simple cold water extraction will filter out all the Tylenol.

I can't imagine this will help other teams really garner much interest in this guy who has never shown any ability to play at a pro level, now he starts having off the field issues as well...
