makes sense... people who make a ton of money on their own merits generally learn enough along the way to retain it when they get it. you get it without that knowledge... it'll be easier to lose it.

It just doesn't make sense to me how people can do that. Why is it that the only people that win the lottery are either A) Too old to truly enjoy it, or B) Asshats who blow it away in a short period of time and end up poorer than they were before?

It's just not fair, but I guess I should play the lottery before I'm allowed to bitch.

a fool and his money are soon parted.

If I won the lotto for the low payouts and got a $1 million lump sum. I'd lock up some of the money in trust funds for my children. Not too much, just enough to go to state school for 4 years. Then I'd figure out that the maximum deduction I can make for donations and give that amount to my B-school. The rest gets thrown into an S&P500 index fund and forget about it until it's time to retire.

then when people come around to ask me for money I'd tell them its locked up in the trust funds.

Yup... Happens to many(most?) people that win the lottery, because.. well, most people are completely fscking retarded.
 
If I won the lottery, I'd probably live mostly the same. That is no big spending sprees. It's always easier to spend money than it is to recover it from what you spent it on.

Well, maybe buy a house earlier but that was already in the plans
 
You heard about the Powerball lotto winner who left $200-$300K in his car, went to a bar or diner, came out and his dough was gone. Eventually, friends or family of the guy that stole the money ratted him out because they didn't get a big cut. Dumb-asses I tell you.

Give me $100 ~ $100,000 tax free and I will thank you.
