Good. Obama finally pissing off former DEA meatheads is a step in the right direction. Obama had been a disaster on this front in his first term.

What happened to this being a democracy and the government being there to serve the will of the people? Clearly, the will of the people in those states is that they would like to legally smoke some reefer. And since it poses no great threat to anyone or society there should be no problem with that.

Of course that is the idealistic viewpoint that ignores how money plays into the equation. And also how once power is given the people that get it rarely want to give it back.

For them it's not the money from the drugs, it's the billions to fight them. The shoring up of civilian paramilitary police units, weapons and gear, and forcing their morals on everyone else, as well as the multi-billion dollar a year prison industry. It's the same mentality as racist.

Except for that weird last sentence, you stole what I came in here to post. Loooooots of money in the war on drugs for companies that can get government contracts. Private security, prisons, SWAT gear, AR-15's, aircraft with infrared detection, and moustache trimming companies have all seen healthy profits since the start of the war on drugs.
