ewww... crucial PC3200 sux :(

I guess I should have looked at the modules I was getting. This is definitely holding back my 2.4C/IS7 combo... and I'm only running single channel 🙁

Reported by CPU-Z.
Module #0
Memory type DDR-SDRAM
Manufacturer (ID) Micron Technology (2CFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)
Size 256MBytes
Max bandwidth PC3200 (200MHz)
Part number 8VDDT3264AG-40BC4
Max frequency @CAS#2.0 133MHz
Max frequency @CAS#2.5 166MHz
Max frequency @CAS#3.0 200MHz

You're running a 2.4C on single-channel, and you're complaining that the memory is holding you back? Yeah, it might be holding back your OC since it isn't fancy stuff, but if your system performance is low, the first thing you should do is go to dual-channel.

"Darn this new Dodge Viper I bought... I'm running the wheels/tires off a base-model Dodge Neon, and using 89-octane gas instead of 92-octane. This 89-octane gas is making it corner and accelerate terribly! 😛"

It's good memory for 865 non-PAT / non-OC and fine for 875 if you run it at the proper CL3. It's not CL2, but CL2 costs twice as much for DDR400. Of course you can get Mushkin budget "Green" CL 2.5 for almost the same price, but no one has said how well it works yet in My Munchkin Thread

you do know thats just SPD and you can try faster timings... of course, theres little evidence that changing strobe rates has much effect on most applications.

What's funny is he's saying its holding him back, but he doesn't report anything to support this. Just what cpu-z reports which is the id for the memory.

I'm running 2x256 at 215fsb at cas 2.5 without a hitch (Highest my Nforce2 will go)

They are 5ns Micron chips and I'm sure they will go much higher.

Before saying something sux, do some testing to back it up.

Like do you know all the settings in your BIOS that can keep you from o/c'ing.
I'll bet you haven't researched that either.

If you were getting a 2.4C and IS7 you definitely should've laid down the extra few bucks for high-quality CL2 PC3200, if not higher. Corsair XMS or Kingston HyperX aren't that much more expensive. But who knows, if you haven't tested it out at higher FSB/timings, why complain? It's possible that the chips will run fine at higher settings despite their rating.

mechBgon.. hey.. do u use 92-octane fuel overthere?

We use 95 or 98 here.. or is that not the same stuff?

I've seen reviews where some folks got their Crucial PC3200 (2x256 in Dual Channel) up to 250MHz FSB (1000MHz Quad-pumped) @ Cas 3.0, as well as one at over 230MHz (232 I believe?) @ Cas 2.0.

As others have said... have you tried it? 😉

ok... let me explain. I was kind of on a budget, and got single channel because I knew I could buy another stick later, and get a good performance increase. The thing is, I would have to buy the same kind of memory I have already (or at least run it @ the same speeds, timings... weakest link?). The reason I was complaining was because the computer would not even boot with PAT (game accelerator) enabled in the BIOS. So, when I DO go DC, I will still be jheld back. 🙁
