Its just a different shipping charge structure that is tilted to favor multiple items or quantity rather than one or two. Newegg is more akin to a retailer, whereas eWiz is more akin to a distributor. In fact, eWiz was started by a well-known distributor (MA Labs) to address the needs of small system builders, integrators, and others that purchased in smaller quantities like five or ten units but couldn't get any discount love from the conventional channel where pricing tiers heavily favor medium to large accounts.
I've purchased tons of stuff from eWiz and I am worried about what this ownership change will mean. I often buy components in quantities of two ~ eight, where Newegg kills you on shipping unless you happen to find a free shipping special. Since I am only a couple hours from eWiz distribution center, shipping typically starts at five or six dollars for the first item, then increases incrementally for each additional item by as little as a dime. Here are cropped screen grabs of some recent invoices:
seven items shipped for $11.23 (this was a fairly heavy box due to the external drive enclosures)
10 items shipped for $8.74
10 items shipped for $9.53
I also like the fact that eWiz carries real OEM system builder components such as genuine OEM modules from first-tier DRAM manufacturers like Elixir/Nanya, Qmonda/Infineon, Micron/Spectek, and Samsung. Corsair and other second-tier 'premium' labels are better suited for the enthusiast end-user, not system builders who build a lot of mainstream machines for others.
Its unfortunate that Newegg has developed a false reputation as 'the source' for system builders, when its really only a good source for DIY end-users and enthusiasts, or anyone that only needs to 'spot purchase' a small number of components for one machine (e.g. one pair of memory modules, one PSU, et. al.). For those buying multiple items, or multiple quanties, you would usually do better by looking somewhere else other than Newegg. Again, excepting Newegg's free shipping items, which I frequently take advantage of myself.
