I bought a couple items from eWiz without problem. They're shipping charges were always really high, so you'd get excited to see an item priced pretty low but once you get to checkout you realized it wasn't that great of a deal afterall. Still though, occasionally their prices were still lower than newegg and whatnot and they shipped pretty quickly.

the good thing was their shipping increased very little per item.
your first item may cost like 8 bucks for shipping, but when yo add 3 more items the shipping is only up to 12 bucks.

I've taken advantage of that too. For instance, if a part at Newegg was $100 with free shipping, while eWiz was $95 with $8 shipping = $103 shipped, if you buy five of them Newegg would be 5x$100= $500 shipped, while eWiz would be 5x$95= $475 +$12 shipping = $487 shipped. Depending on how it turns out, can save considerably. Sometimes I've actually bought items that were more expensive, because I saved on shipping. Example, if I need something from Newegg at $100 plus $7 shipping versus eWiz at $102 plus $9 shipping, BUT I'm also getting something else at eWiz, then the item becomes $102 plus an additional $1-2 shipping.

It all depends on what I'm ordering and how many.

This also applies to any other company that's good about "stacking" shipping costs. Newegg sometimes has unrealisticly high shipping costs. Used to be that two $7 shipping costs adds up to $14, but they're better now. However, it still ends up above real shipping costs for many items.

Ewiz is still too far away for ground shipping for me, items take too long to be delivered.

if you send in a mail in rebate, they will not honor it UNLESS you call or email and harass them about it. All the MIRs we received were never honored, unless customers went out of their way to harass the company for it. Also, a majority of all the comments/testimonials on the site are fake.

All this true, Brian?

imho, the "NewBiiz" name seems like such a rip of "NewEgg" that I'd hesitate buying anything from them...

Its just a different shipping charge structure that is tilted to favor multiple items or quantity rather than one or two. Newegg is more akin to a retailer, whereas eWiz is more akin to a distributor. In fact, eWiz was started by a well-known distributor (MA Labs) to address the needs of small system builders, integrators, and others that purchased in smaller quantities like five or ten units but couldn't get any discount love from the conventional channel where pricing tiers heavily favor medium to large accounts.

I've purchased tons of stuff from eWiz and I am worried about what this ownership change will mean. I often buy components in quantities of two ~ eight, where Newegg kills you on shipping unless you happen to find a free shipping special. Since I am only a couple hours from eWiz distribution center, shipping typically starts at five or six dollars for the first item, then increases incrementally for each additional item by as little as a dime. Here are cropped screen grabs of some recent invoices:

seven items shipped for $11.23 (this was a fairly heavy box due to the external drive enclosures)

10 items shipped for $8.74

10 items shipped for $9.53

I also like the fact that eWiz carries real OEM system builder components such as genuine OEM modules from first-tier DRAM manufacturers like Elixir/Nanya, Qmonda/Infineon, Micron/Spectek, and Samsung. Corsair and other second-tier 'premium' labels are better suited for the enthusiast end-user, not system builders who build a lot of mainstream machines for others.

Its unfortunate that Newegg has developed a false reputation as 'the source' for system builders, when its really only a good source for DIY end-users and enthusiasts, or anyone that only needs to 'spot purchase' a small number of components for one machine (e.g. one pair of memory modules, one PSU, et. al.). For those buying multiple items, or multiple quanties, you would usually do better by looking somewhere else other than Newegg. Again, excepting Newegg's free shipping items, which I frequently take advantage of myself.

 I've purchased from MA Labs back when I owned a repair shop in SoCal. IIRC back then (mid-late 90s) they specialized in RAM and CPUs. Used to visit their booth at ComDex.

But what about in a year? Maybe more? Will they be around?
It's a terrible name, like one you'd buy from two guys in a white van.
I tend to overlook companies that use an unnecessary "z" at the end of their name, not to mention redundant "i"s that may make the pronunciation more like "bees" than "biz".
It just sounds shady, and on the internet, if it sounds shady, 99% of the time it is. :(

I bought an enhance psu from ewiz back when enhance was one of the better options, and they purchase went fine, however, the only reason I got it there was b/c they were one of the only ones that carried the psu. I didn't use them for anything else and probably won't in the future.

I've bought memory, hard drives, cpu's, video cards, and a few other things from eWiz. I'm sure I've spent $10K within the past year. I like them. I have to pay sales tax at NewEgg, so I use a few other vendors.

After thinking about this more, this can't be good. I posted on their blog to ask for clarification.

A company rarely acquires another company with a great reputation and then gets rid of it's name and domain.

When you buy a long standing company a lot of what your paying for is reputation and goodwill with customers.

You would never throw that away unless the buying company had a equal or stronger name (even HP kept around Compaq branding for a while).

There are only two possible explanations:

1) The new owners lack any business sense, in which case stay away
2) We are not being told the whole story, in which case it makes sense to be suspicious

Stick a fork in them, they're done - as far as my ordering goes - until they at least shoot straight with us on what happened.

Well, I just ordered ten 4GB kits of memory from them on Thursday, and they shipped Friday, and I received the tracking number as well.

So far, I'm still happy.

This thread smells of fishiness.

Relatively new AT member posts news of well-known company being bought out by not so well liked company.

EWiz rep signs up for account to ensure everyone that "It's going to be great!"

Unknown thread crapper signs up for account just to thread crap.

/ominous organ music plays in background

This does not bode well for EWiz. I've bought from them a few times over the years and have been very happy with the prices and service. Bye, EWiz; you'll be missed. :(
