LoL! The liberal nation of freedom where religion is outlawed..

The fundamentalists want to outlaw science, no?

Does that make correct, in your view, the opposite extreme view?

Here is a Museum dedicated to the new America Taliban teaching that has replaced Science:

7-31-2006 Museum uses bible to tell earth's history

PETERSBURG, Ky. - Like most natural history museums, this one has exhibits showing dinosaurs roaming the Earth. Except here, the giant reptiles share the forest with Adam and Eve.

That, of course, is contradicted by science, but that's the point of the $25 million Creation Museum rising fast in rural Kentucky.

Its inspiration is the Bible ? the literal interpretation that contends God created the heavens and the Earth and everything in them just a few thousand years ago.

"If the Bible is the word of God, and its history really is true, that's our presupposition or axiom, and we are starting there," museum founder Ken Ham

Ham, an Australian native who started the Christian publishing company Answers in Genesis in the late 1970s, said the goal of his privately funded museum is to change minds and rebut the scientific point of view.

"We're going to show you that we can make sense of the different people groups, we can make sense of fossils, we can make sense of what you see in the world," he said.

Scientists say fossils and sophisticated nuclear dating technology show that the Earth is more than 4 billion years old, the first dinosaurs appeared around 200 million years ago, and they died out well before the first human ancestors arose a few million years ago.

Ham said he believes most fossils are the result of the Great Flood described in Genesis.

John Morris, president of the Institute for Creation Research in San Diego, an organization that promotes creationism, said the museum will affirm the doubts many people have about science, namely the notion that man evolved from lower forms of life.

"Americans just aren't gullible enough to believe that they came from a fish," he said.

Wait a minute - something is wrong here.
I bolded the section where 'Ham' an Australian native was credited with founding the 'Creation Museum'.

Here in Texas, just a mosey down the road a piece from Fort Worth, is Glen Rose, and the Dinosaur Park
where all those magnificient track prints were found in the stone bedrock of the ancient Paluxy River

and on the road leading into the Park there of to the 'Extreme Right' sits the Creation Evidence Museum

Read it - and pay special attention to Paragraph # 3

The CEM, opened in 1984, proudly bills itself as a "scientifically chartered museum." Its founder and director, Carl Baugh, Ph.D., sees it as a natural extension of his life's work -- to topple Darwin's theory of evolution by proving that people and dinosaurs lived together. Dr. Baugh (whose doctorate, it should be noted, is in Philosophy and is from a correspondence college in Australia) is a 66-year-old Baptist minister who -- miraculously, perhaps -- still has a full head of thick, brown hair. He is an inescapable presence at the CEM, the Mr. Rogers of Creationism. His cardigan-clad image hosts a 40-minute video tour in which he explains EVERY SINGLE ITEM on display in the Museum. The video is run several times daily, on three big monitors, simultaneously, in the tiny room. Like it or not, you will get Dr. Baugh's message at the CEM.

A Doctorate Degree in Philosophy . . from a correspondance college course in Australia

Ah ha! a 'Down-Under' Conspiracy

Just waiting for them to announce that they have put on display the fossilized remains of Adam's (of Adam & Eve fame) penis,
which , by the way, they will have found laying sideways in the bottom of a Sauropod track, bigger than in real life.

they can pick up more advertisers if they have Adam sportin' a pair of CK's and Eve in Victoria Secrets. You know they both appeared in a garden, sporting smooth waxed tanned bodies and freshly botoxed upper lips.

what's your point? what about the other 50 men who signed the DoE? The founding fathers were not all christian. some were, some were not. they all agreed though that religious neutrality was the best approach.

So why wouldn't they be neutral towards a private museum in Kentucky?

I suppose, so long as tax dollars aint paying for it and it is on private non-governmental property.

IMHO, anyone who believes in biblical creationism is a crackpot of some sort. Representing it as science puts you waaaaay out in left field somewhere. I have never heard any argument for creationism being fact that had any credibility whatsoever. If someone wants to believe it on faith personally, fine; have at it. Inventing facts and conjecture to cloak it as real science is discusting. People have the right to do it in this country and I wouldn't take that away. But it is discusting never the less.

Just give me some proof, there is proof of evolution, proof that the world is a couple years older than the bible says (carbon dating), proof that dinosaurs existed a few million years before man (see carbon dating), proof that man wasn't the upright, pious creature he is now, (see skeletal structures of Peking and Java man, et al). All this and there is not 1 shred of proof for creationism. Not 1, no ark, no grail, no marks on mountains to show where a great flood would have happened, oh yea, that's right, it's all about belief. Well I believe in science, and a higher power, they are not one and the same.

As I'm sure you know the vast majority of the Founding Fathers were Deists, look up the word if you aren't familiar. These are statements of their personal beliefs, NONE of which made it into the DoI or the Constitution.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident"

Franklin made Jefferson change the wording, it previously said something about being ordained from God or granted by God, something like that.

Much of what went into the founding of this nation was Freedom FROM Religion, rather than Freedon OF Religion.

Those who left England and came here were casting off the shackels of the English Anglican Church Doctrine.

I believe there is evidence of a large boat from a flood of the Tigris and Euphrates, but hardly "the ark." The thing is, the bible does include history in it, but it's written by men. In many ways, you can treat it like a Hollywood film that says "based on a true story." That is, take the truth with a grain of salt.

I believe, in many respects, the founding fathers wanted something more important; that they wanted a religion that was free from government. One of the worst things you can do with a religion is to make public policy out of it.

I agree, they should. That's what separation of church and state is all about. I sincerely doubt anyone believes that this "museum" shouldn't exist or that the government should shut it down. Still, that doesn't mean they're not going to receive their fair share of abuse for being so ignorant about their beliefs. "Young Earth" evangelicals are about as bizarre as it gets.

I remember reading an article about how a large number of college freshmen in one of the midwestern states were never taught evolution. It's not quite the same, but you have major issues where some schools simply aren't teaching science like they're supposed to.

I guess you can't say the same of people who manipulate plant genetics towards the goal of increasing yields come harvest time. 😉

True enough often enough. Some of them would put their mother's kidney gene in corn if it pissed bugs that eat, and not to feed the world, but to fatten their wallet.

How many billion of years would it take of tonadoes whirling through a junkyard to produce a Boeing 777 jet airliner?

Yet the human body is a trillion times as complex.

The real knowledgeable scientists who have not been brainwashed by evolution recognize that there are blueprints in the natural World that put a human being together. And all other life forms.

Evidence: DNA and the incredibly almost infinitely complex biological creatures that are made according to these blueprints.

You see, ...the evidence is so great it blinds those already blinded by Darwin's totally unsubstantiated theories.

The latest collection of evolutionary theories was put forth by Stephen J Gould. Its called "punctuated equilibrium". You see, there's no transitional fossils between species in the entire fossile record. Creatures appear on the fossile record fully formed. So Gould says evolution happens in fast bursts. We allegedly can't see the transitional fossile because the the actual evolving mechanizms that allegedly drive macro-evolution happened too fast for any animals to have some mishap and be fossilized, in for instance a sedimentary rock formed by floods.

Which is quite a bizarre theory by Gould, since evolution is alleged to require billions or millions of years of tiny changes that benefit a creature's survival. Called by Darwin "Natural Selection".

...enjoy the discussion and try to be gentlemen.
