Evo worth it?

I lost my phone over the weekend and I picked up a curve to replace my bold though sprint for 50 bucks. The phone is god awful (4.5 os). They cant even get my data to work.

I am thinking of breaking down and trying to upgrade to an EVO. that is the only phone on sprint that is worth anything right now in my opinion that is android. I wanted to wait until the summer for the iphone 5 and upgrade to that. but it looks like sprint is going to hold off on the iphone for a while now considering the recent annoucements.

do you think a price drop is coming for evo since evo 3d is coming out in the summer? Or is there a strong chance that the iphone is coming out on sprint?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I am so tired of blackberry, I don't to blow 200 again for a tour or bold. So not worth it...

If I were on Sprint today, I would get the HTC Arrive. It's a Windows phone with the best smartphone keyboard in existence. Windows Phone 7 is my favorite smartphone OS at the moment. In a lot of ways I'd say it's better than Android.

If you have your heart set on Android, I'd highly recommend waiting a few months. The Evo 3D and the Nexus S 4G were just announced. If you get the original Evo today, be prepared for some serious smartphone envy a few months down the line.

i will take that into consideration. I am thinking about going the evo route. I don't like slider if they had a non slider windows 7 I would be up for it. What would be a good price for a evo on craislist? I am thinking 175-200? Or should I be looking for something in the 150 range with the new phones coming out?

Evos are probably $300+ on CL.

Evo is a great phone, probably my favorite smartphone ATM, although I've not played with the new dual core phones yet.

If you're set on Sprint I'd pick up an Evo to tide you over until the next generation of phones arrive.

thanks kabob. I appreciate the advice. I take almost all of your advice from black ops. I have the sprint sero plan, so it is hard for me to give up sprint if you know what I mean.

Yeah, my cousin has the same plan and you couldn't get him to switch from Sprint for anything. They know how to take care of their customers. I'm actually contemplating a switch to Sprint when my Verizon contract is up. I know the service will suffer, but I HATE the data speed throttling...with a passion.

Good luck in your decision!

Evo is a great phone even by today's standards. Because of how fast new/better smartphones come out, I wouldn't worry about it being out of date. There's always gonna be a next gen phone a couple months away no matter when you buy so just get whatever you want to get. I'd be willing to increase my phone bill if it meant going from a BB to an Android phone.

Kabob, SERO is so amazing that you can set your phone to roam 100% of the time and not get charged for it. Then you will be on Verizon the entire time. I don't do that personally because my service never suffers, but it is an option.

Yes, the Evo is an awesome phone. For being about 10 months old, it's still one of the best handsets in the game. If you need to get a phone NOW and can't possibly wait a few months, it's an excellent phone that will take a huge dump on any BlackBerry you've ever owned.

Or if you can wait 2-3 more months, the Evo 3D should be hitting this summer, and I'm betting it'll be right around the same time the first Evo hit (June 4th). I'm waiting to see how well Evo 4Gs will hold their value once the 3D is out. I'll either try to sell mine, or give it to my girlfriend when the 3D hits.

+1

Phones, like any other piece of electronics, will always have something "right around the corner" when youre ready to buy. The Evo is a great phone, and would probably suit your needs very well. It does...well...everything.

I would be sceptical about he Evo 3D...1st gen phones are almost always more of a PITA than not.

If you like the brick-sized form factor, the new stuff this summer is going to be pretty excellent.

If you want something slimmer, the Nexus can't be more than two weeks away -- BB is already taking pre-orders.

I debate that. I've got a Fascinate and my cousin has an Evo 4G. I know Fascinate != Nexus but it's close enough. Despite the fact that his screen is 4.3" vs. the Fascinate's 4" screen, the difference in size is not that dramatic. HTC did a MUCH better job optimizing real estate.

Here's Anandtech's specs of the three:

Fascinate:
4.92" x 2.5" x 0.39"
4.16 oz

Nexus S:
4.88" x 2.48" x 0.43"
4.6 oz

Evo 4G:
4.8" x 2.6" x 0.5"
6 oz

So it's shorter, a hair wider, and deeper than the two Samsung-made phones. It's heavier, but not so much that I find it annoying. And you get that extra 3/10" that makes a big difference.

Found a few evos on the internet for 200. I plan on pulling the trigger soon but want to make sure my old sero will still be intact. I have the BB sero plan which is 40 per month and from what I understand with evo they bill you an extra 10 making it 50/month.

Is this way of thinking correct? I don't want to lose unlimited 3 numbers/sero benefits and the ability to downgrade.

Thanks for the help

One thing I have to say is that the curve has excellent battery life. but I use my phone often as a music/media device and would like a little bit more.

Is the Blackberry SERO plan the same as SERO Plus?

Last year Sprint announced SERO Plus which lets you activate better phones on SERO. $10 extra over regular SERO.

Also you have to add the $10 EVO premium data charge.

So it should cost you $50/mo but I'm wondering if BB Sero is a different thing. A lot of older plans charged an extra $10/mo specifically for Blackberries but not other smartphones. So maybe that one will go away when you switch to a non-BB.

The BB plan is now defunct, and is included in Sero Plus/Premium.

OP: You WILL lose your pick 3. Also keep in mind with the new SERO plans you get unlimited mobile to mobile on any carrier. And, you CAN change back to SERO legacy plan at a later date if you wish.

This is off-contract right?

If so, for 200 it's an absolute steal.

Around Southern California, you can Craigslist them day and night for $280 or so.

yeah no contract. I guess south florida has a lower cost of living. Maybe I need to buy them and resell them to cali lol.

agreed.... That is why I am having the guy meet me at the sprint store to activate. If it doesn't activate then no money.
