I agree.
Even though I trust most of the figures I've read, the fact is that I know first hand how quick the Evo is. I was in my friend's brother's Evo when he spanked an STi.
BTW, he hasn't had any problems with his Evo. Nor have I heard anyone in the states with problems, yet. Granted the car hasn't been around very long here, so that is irrelevant. But so is saying that the Subaru is so much more reliable. If you look at Japanese models, its completely different because they replace their motors after 30-50k miles by law.
Overall I would agree that Subaru has better reliability then Mitsubishi, generally speaking. But both of these cars are going to have drivetrain problems, diff's, axles, etc. I can't imagine there would be too much difference in reliability between these two.
Who do you know (addressed to anyone) who has an Evo and has had problems?? There is a strict guidline by the factory for breaking these car's in. I can only imagine that whoever it is didn't adhere to these specifications very well.

The only problems I've seen occur during racing when pushing the car to hard. However both were highly modded, upgraded cams, turbos, pretty much everything except the block and it's internals. One dropped a valve and was easily reparied. The other destroyed a piston somehow.
The guy who ruined the engine is having it fully built and bored to 2.2 liters. He owns the one in the pics I posted. He also bought an MR to play with. Recently blew up the transfer case. Again, he was racing.
Clutches are also s\itty and need to be replaced quickly. But as for regualr stuff, they hold up well. The guys that don't take theirs to the track like these guys have not had any issues such as this, aside from the clutch thing.

Do you really think the numbers are going to be that different anywhere you look?
This jives with everything I've seen about the two cars; They are more or less equally matched. The Evo does a little better in some areas, and the STi does a little better in some areas.
Obviously everyones tastes are going to be different. If you're in the market for either one, you owe it to yourself to test drive both.
Personally, I would be more interested in the STi simply because Mitsubishi could go tits up any day now though.

Geez why does any car-related thread turn into a flame war here?
I've never driven or sat in either of these cars, although I've seen them up close. So based soley on looks, I'd go for the EVO mostly because I'm somewhat partial to zippy little cars.
I don't think you can go wrong with either one though, I mean most road tests have them pretty much neck and neck, it all comes down to personal preference. The only worry EVO owners would have is the current financial state of Mitsubishi and how easy it would be to get spare parts.
Regarding the whole grammar flame war... I do somewhat look down upon people who confuse "there", "their" and "they're" as well as "you're" and "your", especially when they try to pass if as a typo, when it cleary isn't, it's a grammar mistake and it surprises me how many people still don't know the difference between these words or have to actually think about which one to use considering I understood the differences back in grade 2/3.
