You're using the wrong tool for this job. Root plus Titanium is much more complete and elegant, with no ugly side effects. I think you can zap the apps with adb as well.

Until rooting becomes as easy as changing SD cards, I don't see myself doing it.

i just went from EVO 2.2 to EVO 2.1, then rooted to CM6, then back to EVO 2.2 with the 30 FPS uncapped. I miss my CM6!!! that made me realize what a resource hog Sense is... wow... CM6 is sooooo fast! I can definitely see the 30 fps uncapped there! though I see it in the sense UI, it's not very apparent... since most of everything in sense moves @ 30 fps. but in ADW launcher, wow 60 fps is a huge difference!

I'm even considering giving up wimax!

Installed the drivers, ran unrevoked and my phone still works.

You will know if you are rooted if you have the superuser icon in your apps. If you are, you can either download a custom ROM which generally has all that junkware removed already, or remove it yourself with root explorer, titanium, or another file manager.

I'm not sure where the Evo is though when it comes to custom roms, as I don't have one, and don't follow. But I imagine if there's root, there's custom roms.

It's rooted. I was able to install superuser apps.
I guess I expected it to look differently.
Moose recommended "ROM Manager" which I installed and there are a few ROMS for the Evo.

I'd suggest either Titanium Backup or what I've been using, a very simple app called "SDX Stock App Removal": http://forum.sdx-developers.com/tester-board/sdx-stock-app-removal-testers-needed/

All it does is let you go through the list of apps and backup + delete any that you want. So you can ditch anything you don't want but keep a backup. I believe Titanium Backup has a similar function but the interface is pretty complicated.

Titanium also lets you 'freeze' them too so they just don't run. That way you don't have to reinstall them later if you want them back for some reason later.

Freezing requires the paid version of Titanium though. I'm not opposed to paying for apps but I don't love Titanium Backup enough to justify it. SDX Stock App Removal works just fine.

No they don't, if you know what your doing at least. Task Killers are good for closing hung apps. Other than that Android does an excellent job of killing of apps when needed. Go read how Android works and report back. Once you understand how apps are kept open you will understand task killers are not needed.
