I think i am going crazy. I'm hearing a high pitched whin from my MX510, does anyone else here this, you have to put it up right next to ur ear when it's on. This can actually be heard from 2/3 feet away if ur ear is pointed directly at it. ANY ONE ELSE HEREING THIS , or am i really going crazy

I can hear a high pitched noise if I put my MX510 right up to my ear. I can't hear it from more than a half foot away though. Never noticed it before now.

ahhh,,, it's just a high pitched whine,, Kinda like when someone slaps you really hard, and you loose hearing, but have that high pitch sound. It's the same thing, except not as loud

Noises like this are usually caused by a voltage boost circuit. They call it "inductor sing." What is happening is that an inductor is being used to boost the voltage. This inductor is an iron core, with copper windings around it.

If you float the windings, and attach them to a paper cone, you have a speaker 😉

What I can't figure out is why a mouse would need one...

I've never heard it on mine, but i am also always listening to something (music, movies, etc.) while i am on my PC.

put ur mx510 right next to ur EAR, U"LL hear it,, u can't miss it.. I'm glad i'm not the only one, I have a red mx510, and thought it was the devil. and does anyone know the 1000hz patch, they took it off line for some reason. there's only the 500 hz patch now.

Oh man, finally someone with the same problem I have. All of the MX510 have the high pitched whine, but most are quiet enough until you put your ear right up next to it. After about 2-3 months, my blue MX510 started to make the noise a lot louder, so that I could hear it from a couple feet away. I called Logitech tech support and they've never heard of the problem, so they just sent me another MX510 for free withing a few days. The mouse worked fine for about 2 weeks (no loud high pitched whine) then all of a sudden I started to hear it again. I'm hearing it right now 🙁 I don't know what to do now, I'm just going to live with it and play mp3s a lot more while I'm online.

I doubt you'll have a problem, inveterate is the only other person I've heard have this problem. Two of my friends have MX510s and the whine is inaudible (unless its up close to your ear). Mine whines fairly loudly, but I only hear it about 25% of the time at I'm at my computer.

Yea true, Did i mention i have oversensitive hearing, i have to wear ear plugs at night to sleep. Azndude, u could have this problem as well, I can hears some crazy stuff in public places too. I've worked with a doctor, and i'm able to adjust to sound as long as i know where it's coming from. the mouse was just a little too weird and disorientating fo me at first. It's a medical condition i guess, so don't "not get the mx5 cuz of me"

I can also hear a high pitched squealing sound from mine, but not until it's about 6 inches from my ear. I can't hear it under normal using conditions though. Hey Inveterate, are you musically inclined at all? My guitar teacher also has hyper-sensitive hearing, and he also has perfect pitch (I'm jealous).

yea i do have perfect pitch, but i'm not killtacular at music, cuz i hear too much noise along with the music so i can't do anything by ear.

LOL.

Ouch, sounds like some kind of EMI interference or capacitor leak?

wow...I'm hearing _exactly_ what you are describing...At least I can't notice it until I get within about a foot of it. 🙂

And, yes, I'm one of those people who can hear the TV on[muted] a few rooms away...

The thing with me, though is that I dont have very sensitive hearing, I would call it average. Plus I never heard the sound on the two MX510 that I own when I first got them, only after a few weeks did I start hearing the sound from where I am sitting.

Hey.
My monitor, a 19" ADI flat CRT, did this when i first got it, but it seems to have stopped now. maybe it'll stop with the MX510???...

Well.... they're probably making the sounds for different reasons since monitors and mice are completely different technologies.

anyone get the mx518, i wonder if that one does the same thing

The only sound I get from my 518 is the same as if I just hold my hand up to my ear, ringing.
