eVGA X79 FTW :(

Just finished building my system and as much I wanted to like this board, it just wasn't meant to be.

Issues
PCI 3.0 spec is iffy, only 1 of my cards was running at 3.0 the second at 2.0
The board just wouldn't post with my GT 650 installed. Kept giving me a 'd4' error. Didn't matter what slot it was installed in.
XMP profile just didn't work. Even setting the speeds manually resulted in No boot.

I think this is the last time I am going to buy an eVGA board. Their GPU's are really good so is the Customer service but they have some catching up to do when it comes to motherboards.

Went to my local Microcenter and picked up an open box Asus Sabertooth X79 and all works great!!

Easily OCed my i7 3820 to 4.6Ghz @1.29Volts

Yeah, i've heard many similar stories. I appreciate EVGA GPUs but they have some work to do on their motherboards. Their Z68 board in particular had quite a few issues.
 
I was almost gonna buy a Evga x79 Sli motherboard myself to pair with a 3930k,even saw it for $130 and with my max budget for a motherboard being $180,it was the only choice in that price range but yeah i saw plenty of horror stories and posted a thread about wondering how worthwhile it was.

Luckily newegg had a promodeal on the 3930k dropping it $70 and i picked up a Intel X79TO for $209 with money left over for beer😀,for a cheap board its been nothing but beautiful for me and with a auto overclock of 4ghz,i have no complaints.🙂

I would recommend the x79TO long before i would recommend a Evga,plenty of bad reviews and reports and plenty of people convinced me to avoid Evga,perhaps my experience will for you.

What was the promo about the 3930K about?

Anyways I ended up getting the Asus Saberooth X79 for like $250 plus tax and for now it's been doing very well.

Well ya they were video card only at one point. For motherboards,, IMO theres 2 top tier brands

ASUS
Gigabyte

to me the rest are junk.. sometimes its worth paying almost 400 dollars for your motherboard......... thats the foundation of your rig ya know,,,,,,
 
EVGA motherboards seen to be crap. They've had issues reported since the nforce days. Never used one, but I always read of people having issues with them. Never mind they're overpriced to boot.
 
Same story here but with a 3820. I actually thought I ordered the evga board but for some reason it never processed. I told newegg and they offered me $20 off of a open box Intel X79TO, I did mention I was interested in the open box board hoping they would give me a discount due to my budget. Got it for $140 and it was actually never used from what I can tell.

Good pick on the motherboard,the promo i think was only for a few days and it was a instant $70 off which honestly was nothing short of saved by the bell as i had a budget of $830 for the cpu+ram+mobo+heatsink and i was dead set on getting the 3930k,come hell or high water.

I kept looking at the open box motherboards as i had all but the motherboard figured out with $180 max for the board and bam,when the promo deal came up on the 3930k,i picked the board with the features i needed which was yours truly,the X79TO and charged my debit the second that promo came up.🙂

Consider yourself blessed that the order for the Evga board never processed.:thumbsup:

The X79TO is a pretty awesome solid motherboard,perhaps not as awesome as other boards but it has what i need at a considerable price and i think its honestly a worthy board for a X79 build.

Hehe.... I too wanted the 3930K and when my local MC was selling it for $399 I was all set to get it But in the end after a lot of debating my wallet just didn't co-operate. So I settled on the i7 3820.

So you got the the x79to and 3930k. What did you get for cpu cooler/ram and what gpu are you currently using? I just ended up buying evga x79 sli $99, 3820 $279, hyper 212 $25, 32gb g.skill ripjaws @1600 $160, then for gpu I got an MSI 2gb 660 ti overclocked edition $270. Total came out to be about $835.

Picked the Intel stock air cooler as it is super simple to install,good enough for the light overclocking i am doing being 4ghz on stock voltage and the blue led fan matchs with the black pcb and blue led fan theme of my build.

Ram i went for the 8gb 1600mhz gskill ripsaws for $55,gpu is a single Evga gtx670 FTW.

Might get this cpu cooler as it would look awesome with my build http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233029 and i would just drop in a blue led fan.🙂
