Well..you can guess what just arrived in the mail today. 🙂

I got the Core i7 965 Extreme and Patriot memory on November 16th, a day before launch. Now that the board is here, it's time to put it all together. 🙂

*Thread will be updated as I make progress. Specs in sig. Enjoy.

That's good stuff. I just got my 36GB worth of that stuff this morning for testing purposes (six 6GB kits). 😀 So far works great in the MSI Eclipse board. Haven't tried it in the Intel board (shelved it for now since it doesn't support SLI).

LOL. Work got 'em, not my personal credit card.

Well, RAM worked great at SPD, but does NOT work that spiffy at XMP settings. 🙁 So far I've only used one set which BTW is a two stick kit in a plastic pack plus a single stick in a second plastic pack packaged together into one retail box. I'll have to break open another set to see if first set has a defective stick, or test in the Intel board (which is what these are qualified on).

AuDioFreaK39, in the other thread you started on this board, you said,
  • "Just a heads up, the EVGA X58 Ultimate FTW Edition will be releasing in December..."
Do you by any chance know what extra features this other board is supposed to have? In EVGA's initial October press release for the current model, they in fact called it FTW. Obviously it doesn't carry that designation now, but that leaves me wondering if there may be no second board, or at least not this year.

EDIT: Aha, I found a reference to that other board. Check out Theo Valich's 10/22 blog entry:
  • "This is the first motherboard, which will be followed by ultimate motherboard for this Christmas, no questions asked. The enthusiast motherboard is actually being designed by a world class overclocker. Yes, the one and only Peter Tan a.k.a. Shamino, who is making ?Shamino special?.

"Does not work on XMP" -- I have the same issue in my ASus p6T board, running this memory.

Do you know why it won't work? Do you just manually set the rate to 1600?

Michael

Man, had placed an order for the EVGA X58, then read that the FTW board should be out soon. Was all excited to maybe get all the stuff in for thanksgiving, would have been great to have the new setup with family over, thanks for the heads up on the FTW board.

I tried it again with the Patriot 1600 memory; I get an overclocking error when I run the xmp presets with the patriot. I don't get it.

Looks like you need to upgrade your Photobucket account AuDioFreaK39 🙂.

So how is the Patriot memory working out for you? I'm planning to go with the Corsair 3x2GB Dominator kit which is more expensive but I was considering the Patriot as well. I need to be convinced that the Patriot performs well though before buying it.
