EVGA Step-up

I'd just like a bit of info on the step-up program from eVGA as this has factored into my purchase of a 7900GTO, considering G80 is around the corner.

To people who stepped up, did you have to pay for shipping BOTH ways? (ie. send your old card and then also pay shipping for your new card?)

Did you pay customs if you are in Canada?

Most of all, did you think it was worth it?

Please feel free to add any other information about your experience.

Thanks for any info.

Paid $19 + shipping to EVGA to step up from 7800GT CO to 7900GT CO. No problems with the process, the 7900 is another story entirely 😉

I had no problem stepping up to a 7900GT from a 7800 GT...for free! (sans shipping)

Free? How is this possible!?

Because the price which he bought the 7800GT was the exact same price as that of the 7900GT.

Yup. My 7900GT that i stepped up to were actually CHEAPER then the 7800GT's I bought a few months before that. Sure, I don't get any money back though (and it doesn't cover shipping either) 😛

Oh shizzles! I forgot that a 7800GT costs about the same as a 7900GT!!!

EVGA Step-Up? Program Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will the Step-Up? Program take?
A: Once you have submitted your information and you are approved for the Step-Up? Program, EVGA must receive your card with in 15 days. Once we receive your graphics card it will take 1-3 business days to process your step up submission. At this point any charge overage or underage will be assessed. Once this is completed your new card will be shipped to you.

Sounds pretty decent. Thanks, John.

Both ways...but it's certainly cheaper than selling it on ebay overall 😛

But on eBAY the buyer pays for shipping anyway right? You don't think you could have got much for your cards off eBAY at the time you stepped up??

No problems here, I stepped up from a 7800 GTX 256mb to a 7800 GTX 512mb with 550MHz / 1.7Ghz stock clock speeds. Its to bad evga wont cross ship but I only had to wait about a week.

Think about what you just said...

I've probably done around 5 step-ups. I usually come out ahead just using the step up program vs selling on ebay. You have to take into account final values fees, listing fees, and pay pal's cut if you're a verified member. No bad experiences here with EVGA's Step-Up.

Never have stepped up, ALMOST did from 7800GTX to 7800GTX 512, but held off... probably a good choice because I didn't need the extra horsepower. I may step up to whatever is out at the end of my 90 days for my 7900GTO though, maybe a refresh of the 8800GTX (wishful thinking).

I looked into it (I'm in Canada) according to some posts on eVGA's forums (very good forums, check em out) sometimes people in Canada get hit with a customs charge/duty because customs doesn't understand it's an RMA type transaction. I think people have paid the fee and then contested it with customs and gotten a refund. Even if you have to pay the stupid 7% it's still a good deal if you were to buy a card now and get G80 in 2-3 months. I think they use the CDN/USD FX rate on the day you are billed?
