Currently running 2 EVGA gtx 260 core 216's in SLI....and have 58 days left to step up. If I would like to do this, what would my best option be? To wait as long as I can or to get a 295 now? I am hearing more that the rev b of the 295 is not as good a card as the rev a. Will we be seeing something new soon enough for me to take advantage of a step up?
Secondly, will EVGA step up both cards towards one single better card or am I screwed into only using one at a time on an upgrade?

Step-up is one card at a time. Why would you think you can trade two cards for one better card? To use both cards in Step-up you would have to receive two cards.

The "B" version of the GTX 295 is not "worse" than the original. It might have heat problems if you run them in SLI right next to each other and your case doesn't have optimum airflow. Otherwise, by itself it performs exactly as the original and even overclocks similar to the original. As a single card it usually runs cooler and quieter than original, plus IMO it is easier to put water blocks on the single PCB.

why would I think I could step up both cards? Well , I didn't know, that's why I was on here asking thanks.

Would you think that now would be a good time to look into the step up process for a card. or wait maybe another few weeks and see what comes out? Even by doing the step up program with one card at a time will be a great feature to take advantage of through EVGA.

"Screwed" is probably a pretty strong word for giving you the entire amount you paid for a perfectly good card and letting you apply it towards an upgrade.

Wait or step up now, it probably won't make a difference. I don't think NVIDIA is going to be launching anything before your step up runs out. Who knows though, NV might surprise us.

Make sure you check prices and compare whether or not it's cheaper to step up. I was in a similar position once, but since EVGA charges MSRP prices for step up I just sold the card and upgraded via Newegg.

This is true also. Step up is best if you bought your card at the end of one gen, a new generation has launched, and retail prices are still close to MSRP.

you could always step up one card and sell the other (or give it to me plox!) How much did you buy the GTX 260 for, (so how much would you receive for step up?) and how much do you think you could sell the second for?

If you payed over 200 dollars for one of the cards, (I payed $250 for mine a ways back) and could get ~ $150 by selling the other one, you would be out only about $150. Only $100 if you payed more for the card like I did.

That is right... I mean, the step up program is basically there as a "keep the costumer happy" thingy. For example... I bought an 8800 for a load, and a few weeks later they released the 9800. It cost me about 50 bucks to upgrade. It was well worth it. But if you bought a 295 at the beginning of the cycle, there is little it could do for you. What I would do, is just take a hit and see if by the gods they release to 300 series ahead of time and then you can bank on that. If not, then it is Ebay time.

I get what your saying, and I guess that "screwed" is a strong word. That's not really what I mean. just hoping since both cards were purchased at the same time I could do the step up.
I'm thinking wait till as close to the end of the step up period, and step them up to the 285's. For $75 each is what it would be now, maybe a bit less in another month.
Then with the new cards of course have the additional 90 days if they offer that for the second set.....? Kinda more or less just buying time for something better to come out from the green team.
