I assume so. I wasn't locked in at the lower price (uggggh), so why would we be locked in at the higher?

The real question is, will the prices drop before this finishes? Being #80 in line makes me more nervous about that than you, I think.

Thats going to royally suck for the people who get out of queue when the video card is the most amount of money.

I stepped up my 7900GT's to 7950's back in the first part of 06 and it wasn't too bad. But like the other poster said, if you're stepping up right around the release of a new card then you better hurry. I was in the queue for about 10 days before I got the go ahead to send my cards back. It was about 10 more days after I shipped until I had my new ones. I think I paid about 30 bucks a card + shipping costs.

They are tearin it up! In 12 hours I dropped down to #203 from #311. Nighthawk, you must be below 100 now. Looks like we won't be getting any price breaks. I'm almost tempted to just try and sell my card locally and find a deal on a GT when they get to about $200

a no brainer IMO. You get more VRAM at equivalent or better performance...single slot. What is there to question?

the 640 version of the GTS gets whopped by the GT...

But if I were you I would wait until the updated GTS comes around.. it should be even better and you still shouldn't pay much or any to upgrade... so you get more bang for the buck that way.

Yeah. I'm using the Step-Up program from eVGA to step-up from my 8600GT to the 8800GT. I got the 8600GT to replace a dead 7600 GS temporarily. It's going to replace my 7950GT SLI setup as a single-card and those cards are going into the computer that had the 7600 GS.

On a different note about the eVGA step-up program, is that you can "step-down". They offer step-up for my 680i-A1 to the 680i LT or even the 650i Ultra.

I've asked 3 different guys at EVGA about the performance benefits of an 8800GTs -> Stepping up to an 8800GT. Not really fishing for answers either, just because I've had the occasion to talk to them with the program (alright well maybe a little fishing ). The three responses I've rec'd are (1st via phone): "you will be slightly over a lateral move stepping up but the more ram will help you and the exra streamlines but you drop to the 256 bit bandwith. " Then I rec'd via email that "you'll see anywhere from a 2% - 10% gain in games. The last email I just got back asking for my RMA number indicated: "the 8800GT is performing just under an 8800GTX in most benchmarks...." Talk about all ends of the spectrum. I've got no gain, medium gain, and off the charts ....
