I just purchased an eVGA 8800GTX and was interested in the 90-day step-up program advertised on the box. I read up on the eVGA website, but was a little unclear as to the use of the program. It sounds like you can upgrade your product (for a price$) within 90 days of purchase? Has anyone used this program? Is it worth anything? Under what scenario would this be useful? Why would you want to upgrade within 90 days...maybe two years from now?

Thanks,

It would mainly be useful if you buy an expensive card like the 8800GTX and a newer, much faster model comes out immediately after. If you are keeping up on when new cards come out, this probably won't happen to you.

However, if you can't wait for a new card to come out for whatever reason and need something fast now, the step-up option lets you hedge your bets a bit.

Unfortunately, the only card you'd be able to step-up to in the next 90 days would be the 8800 Ultra, which is only going to be released in limited supply and probably not available for step-up.

Don't buy top of the line cards if you're considering upgrading! Silly.
