eVGA problems...

I understand that eVGA has had all sorts of problems with the GeForce 7 series, I was wondering if someone could tell me what these problems are. To name a couple that I have heard, they have problems with RAM and that some of the models have faulty DVI ports.

I'm also interested in information about fixes that have been released for these problems, and of course which cards to avoid at all costs.

I am specifically interested in the 7600GS although I may go with the 7300GT or the 7600GT so information on any and all of those 3 would be great.

TIA

I thought the problems were with the 7900 series...not the 7600 or 7300 series. There is a 1000 threads here about it. Search is your friend

Yea, I would have to agree. Although I have not read the reviews on those two cards. However, I think the majority of reviews on the Egg that are bad, is mostly user error.

as it seems it is not an EVGA only problem..XFX, BFG and several other vendors have had problems with the 7900 series of cards.. it is EVGA that has steped forward with a "fix". hopefully the other vendors will follow. As of now there hasnt been an "official" statement from nvidia as to what "exactly" was the problem. Some have stated on these and other boards that the memory has been replaced by another company. ie. samsung was used before and now infineon is on the new cards.

But a large amount of people complaining that the DVI port doesn't work is more than coincedental, Don't you think? See here and here (I guess it's just on some 7600GS cards)

If you havnt been paying attention or whatnot, EVGA now have a new batch of cards out to replace them that do seem to fix the problems. So there should no longer be any issues with evga. But as for the other companies..... All the other companies I would think would follow but..... who knows.

that seems to be true only for the 7900 series not the 7600.

the 7900 series were the only ones to my knowledge that had real problems.. I've had 2 7800 GT Co SE's for several months now and they have been excellent...like videopho said ..go to the EVGA site.. visit their forums and ask a few questions about the 7300's or 7600's... lots of folks there willing to help.

The early EVGA 7600GS cards that had a fan (instead of the passive heatsink) had non-working DVI ports. They fixed it a long time ago, there's a BIOS update on their site.

If its not specifically an EVGA problem, then could it be an Nvidia problem instead? It certainly sounds like it since a proper diagnosis and fix is taking so long.

On the evga support forum, a sticky thread mentions uneven heights in ram chips - which would cause improper contract with hs. I don't know if designs with separate core/ram hs designs have artifacting/hanging problems also.
