EVGA Nvidia 6800GT Problem HLP PLZ PLZ PLZ

I just got a EVGA PCI-Express Nvidia 6800GT GDDR3 video. It came with a Power Connector. The power Connector has 1 connector at one end, which goes into the card itself. The other end has 2 Regular Power Connectors (llike the ones on hard drives, cd roms, etc).

Do I connect both of the power cables, or just one?

And, I have a regular CRT display. The card has 2 DVI connectors. The CRT will work fine with a DVI-DB15 converter right?

Plz help anyone. Been waiting to install this system for like 2 months now, finally the board was available.

Im pretty sure that's a splitter type connector you got, meaning one side gets connected to the psu, the other to the video card and the third one to something else incase you had no spare connectors on the psu. If you have any spare connectors from the psu just connect it straight to the card.
The converter will work fine, im using one now.

Thankx for the quick response. Both of the PSU power connectors are the same female. I read at the EVGA website that both of the power connetors are needed, BUT they said this for the 6800 Ultra Version. Will it be the same for the GT version?

And I did connect both of em, but still no Video. I installed a Nvidia 6600 PCI-Express and the PC comes up, but NOT with the GT one.

Anyone can tell me what the hell I am doing wrong? Man been waiting for this upgrade for like decades.

Dont use the Y-Cable. Simply connect a molex directly from your power supply into the card.. I like to make sure optical drives and hard drives arnt on the same line going to my video card. Try to give it its own line. I'm sure one optical drive wouldnt hurt though.

I use one cable going from PSU to the Video Card. That cable is not being used for ANYTHING ELSE.
But still no video. I really dont wnat to think this is a bad card, cause I been waiting for so long I will really be pissed.

Hmmm, I would highly suggest you try reseating the card back in the pci slot meaning take it out and put it back in. Its worked for me before.

Another thing you could try is using another dvi connect, its worth a shot.

Darn it, no luck. I tried 2 differnt power connections, 4 differnt DVI converters, and NOTHING, but when I insert the 6600 version my other card, it works fine. THis really suck. I really dont want to return the darn card. I will wait agan for like months.

Anyone has any other ideas here PLZ PLZ????????

There is a green led that resides on the video card. That light is lit when the PC is on, so from my past experience, shows that video is working, correct?

What in the hell im doing wrong?

I tried it in both my systems. THe new one and the old one.

THe old one is a 350 MATX Poewr Supply.

The new one is a 450 MATX Power Supply.

THe power supply is a Athena MATX Model MP4atx45

Even if you do not plug the power connector into the card, you should boot into windows, then you will get a message that says "due to not having enough power, many features of this card are not available."

Well it seems that no matter what I do no video what so ever. The green LED is lit, but no video. I tried both power connectors, tried just 1, tried 2 power supplies, 2 computers. It seems the worst at this time, where i have to return the darn thing, which really really ticks me off, cause I been waiting for the board for 2 months, now I have to wait another week to get this going (and I was looking towards a nice UT or Halo2 fight online). Well back to square 1 and RMA this thing, hopefully won take too long to replace it.

Well I got a replacement card today. I installed it, and with it, it came a square 4 prong power cable that goes into the video card. The other end has 2 POWER CONNECTORS (like the ones used to connect hard drives).

Well I connected 1 of them to PSU. Installed 71.84 drives for XP, entered UT2K4, and real bad frame rates. I mean its worse then my old PC, where i had a AGP ATI 9700 Pro. Something I am not doing right, thats for sure, but anyone can help me here PLZ?

Installed Windows XP.
Installed the Chipset, Audio, USB, Network Drivers (NForce 6.25).
Installed Video Drivers (Nvidia 71.84)
Installed the Game fully. With Directx 9.0B, maps everything.

Run the game, and extreme bad frame rates.

What in the heck am I doing wrong?

Anyone got a clue what I am doing wrong?

Do a google for driver cleaner, download it and remove your old ATI drivers. Those are messing you up.

from reading the PSU sticky in general hardware, you're supposed to plug 2 four pin molexs into the pci-e 6 pin connector. i just got mine, evga instructions blow. i'm waiting on my mobo. but it looks like that may be one problem.

and it also sounds like you should definitely run driver cleaner.

I dont have ATI drivers. I used to have ATI 9700 Pro Video, but in my old rig. The new one I put together is brand spanking new, new case, new mobo, new RAM, etc etc. FRESH install of Windows XP Pro. No other software loaded, and I mean no other software, blank XP with just UT2K4.
I am gonna go today to the games store and buy a new game (something other then UT2K4) an see if that will work fine, just to see if its a hardware or software issue.

I got one question for some of U out there. Sorry but I am not BIIIIIIIIIIIIIG on knowledge of different games except UT. I always and will always play UT, thats my FAV anytime, but I need now something to test my rig with.
Anyone know of a game something like UT (I like fast pased FPS games) that will give me Frame Rates within the game WHILE I play the game? I like Halo and would probably get that one (Halo 2), but can U do a stat FPS within the game itself, while U play the game? I want to test the hardware while I am in the game, like in UT2K4.

The other bad part bout this is that i choose to buy 2 systems, but both of em being the same mobo and CPU but different Video and RAM. Well I tried both Video Cards, but seems they both have the SAME ISSUE, so thats out of question. The only thing is the mobo that has me going crazy. It could be the chipset drivers.

Anyways, gonna go for lunch to game store. Anyone any GOOD Frame Rates testing games out there that I can test the system, and hopefully use the game too afterwards? I want to play online too, specially online, lol.

Hmm sounds very interesting. The issue is this. The last 6800GT I got I plugged in the 2 power connctors, and the darn thing would not come up. It ended up being bad Video Card. I am not sure if that happened cause I connected BOTH power 4 prong connectors or not, but I did not want to take the same chance this time, heck been waitin for the new rig for months now. I am gonna give EVGA a call TODAY and ask them if both HAVE TO BE USED TO MAX PERFORMANCE. Then I will go ahead and plug em in, hopefully it will not blow up my Video, lol.
I see the post in General Hardware, and at the same time I see from EVGA website stating that both power connectors must be plugged in, but on both places it also states that the PCI-Express is a 6800 Ultra. I have a 6800GT, which I know there are some small differences, but not sure bout the power, never had a 6800 Ultra.

Thankx for that info, that could be another issue I can rid off just to be sure of the hardware itself.

Another factor to keep in mind and maybe this info will give U more clues to the problem. Last night I tried to play the game are 1024X768 with normal settings. Then I exit the game, went back to the game in Safe Mode UT, so the video was 640X480 same normal settings. Video was the same. Now there is no way 640X480 can be the same Frame Rates as 1024X768, so somewhere I mess up, just dont know where darn it ticks me off.

well the ultra to my knowledge has 2 power inputs on the card, whether or not thats true for agp and pci-e i dunno.

i too am not 100% sure as i said evga manual sux and i'd hate to mess you up, but from reading the other thread and looking at the adapter they sent with my 6800gt pci-e, it appears 2 4-pin molexs go together to make the 6 pin pci-e adapter.

i'm not sure this is your problem as usually if the card is not getting enough power it warns you that it is throttling down to protect itself.

edit--btw, let me know what evga says. and did you try running driver cleaner anyway?

edit again-- for framerates, google fraps. it runs in game for you.

I did not run Driver Cleaner. Since i did not have any other drivers in the system besides the 71.84 I did not see a reason, but I can try it tonight, it wont hurt a thing.
Thankx for the help, and once i get a hold of EVGA, I will let U know bout the Power. I really dont want to blow up my Video, cause I gotta wait AGAIN forever.

Any actual games I try and run frame rates and see how they are? The google frags I can give a try, but wanted one that came with the game as part of it. I heard Half Life will, but never tried the game, so dont know how it even is. Was gonna get that new Brothers In Arms anyways, so might as well get it now to do the test. Hopefully it has a build in frame rate showing while playing the game. Hope someone can answer this for me.

well you can run timed demos in most games but fraps is pretty easy and small program. works on any 3d game, a small unobtrusive number in upper left of screen.

yes, i saw that you had only loaded the 71.84's which are great, but maybe a bad install or something. the other thing to check are your BIOS settings. make sure you have the correct aperature size etc.

edit--funny story of the evga 6800gt agp i had. the manual specified a 4mb aperature size in bios. i thought, damn this must be a powerful card. needless to say, got like 800 pts on 3dmark03.

Well just got off the phone with EVGA, and they have stated that BOTH power connectors must be connected to the PSU, and prefer to connect from 2 differnt leads off the PSU. So thats from their Tech Support directly. I am gonna try that.
I also explained to them my Frame Rates problem, and the guy was stuck, didnt know what do say since he never encounter something like this. I am gonna try differnt settings and whatnot.

Thank you. Anyone got any other ideas, please let me know. I will welcome anything that I can try. I will dowload some game demos online today and see how those run, besides UT2K4.

Well, I went and downloaded the Star Wars Republic Commando Demo.
Installed it, setup the graphics in the game to 1024X768. When I walk around I get around 60-70 FPS, but when I start shooting and there is a boat load of peeps in the area shooting around, the FPS goes like 15-20, which is not proper for this kind of card. The 6800GT should be able to handle highest settings and good FPS. The game was not playable when started to shoot around, but when walking around or just a few peeps on the screen, its OK, around 60 FPS.

What U all think the problem could be? I will try to go with a previous version of the Nvidia Drivers and see what happens.
