eVGA nF4 SLI 133-K8-NF41-AX, EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra, MSI K8N Neo4-F, or abit AN8 family

I hear the evga is a rebranded Jetway. I can get it for $80 shipped. The epox 85, the AN8 ultra for 100, the an8 vanilla for 80, and the msi for 67.

I like how people have said on the an8 family there are the LED number post codes, that I have an Abit NF7-S so I am familiar with owning an Abit, and I suppose the heat pipe is something good?

(Just read AT roundup...appears Epox has the LED numbers as well...?)

I don't need SLI. I don't need firewire. Onboard sound is good if it is no worse than my Soundstorm.
I figured if the evga board is good and for $80 shipped I might as well put it in the running.

I know that MSI uses SB Live! If the person that won my X-gamer doesn't reply and pay for their winning bid on my soundcard, I could use it if it is better than any onboard sound on today's 939 boards.

I would like the option for overclocking, but I am a novice, not understanding 'memory timing'. I only just within the last 16 hours spent time recording 3 sheets of logs for my system's overclocking tests.

You would do well to check out the ABit KN8 Ultra. No firewire, no SLi, $98 at NewEgg. Not a bad bundle, and on-board ALC850 AC97 audio with optical out as well. The on-board sound won't be quite as good as your Sound Storm. To get that you will need to get a 6150/430 nForce series with HD on-board audio like the new ASUS micro-ATX board or Radeon XPress200 mobo with HD on-board audio. But as the base to a system, the ABit KN8 Ultra is a VERY STABLE mobo! I will probably switch to it for my personal machine as I now use it as a standard part of a nForce4 non-SLi build.

I'd like to pick up 2 more sticks of the RAM below and run 4GBs or RAM with the same settings.

Any reason why I couldn't? Would I have to reduce the RAM speed to 333 MHz?

I've got the following RAM: 2 GB (2 pcs 1GB) DDR (400) PC-3200 Patriot (PDC2G3200LLK) (non-ecc, double sided dimms) in Dimms 1 and 3 and using the "newest" BIOS (dated September) with the EVGA 133-K8-NF41.

The memory is clocked at 426 MHz with timings of 2.0, 3,3,7, T1 and the CPU multiplier is 9x @ 256MHz for an end clock of 2.3 GHz (A64 3000+ Venice with Rev. 3 and retail HSF) and a hypertransport frequency of 800Hz for a front side bus clock of 2048 MHz.

Thanks,

I just built my first system using the Epox 9NPA+U. Went together easy after I realized I had to enable the Lan in the Bios. Been running a week now without a single hiccough.

How much does the heatpipe on the an8 ultra really help? There are no KN8's for sale in FS so new is the only option which goes over $100 shipped.

My AN8 Ultra seems perfectly stable. I haven't done any overclocking though. I went with it because of the heatpipe. I've gotten tired of those stupid little fans dying, so I figure this is more reliable.

Well...it gets you a "bump" and if anyone is running the EVGA board (or any n4 board) mentioned in your post with 4GBs of RAM I'd like to hear about it:)

It would be better to post that question as your own thread instead of possibly hijacking this one.

That evga is still available for $80 shipped.
