Is this normal?

I mean my temps are ok (75C max in Heaven with fan at 30% or so), but if I were to set my fan higher than 40% this thing is loud like an AIRPLANE. In fact, I don't think I ever had a fan that loud...it's crazy.....but then I see in Afterburner that thing turns as high as 5000RPM at 100%?

Just wondering....40% is really the max tolerable in my opinion.

Its certainly rather silly when dealing with power draw of a 970 :)

Don't think it was until the 960 that Nvidia managed to get all of the OEMs nearly arranged behind the being very quiet lark.

Check to make sure both fans are spinning and one isn't stuck/broken. My card gets up to 64°C while playing Battlefield, and looking at my fan curve in Afterburner that is around 54% fan speed. I can barely hear it, and I don't play with headphones on.

Don't believe the max RPM in Afterburner, mine goes up to 10000RPM...

I will test that later more in detail, keeping an eye on temps. But 54% would be WAY too high. If I look at the SC bios, the latest, they have the fan at idle at 0 RPM and at 79C at 34% (!!)...there is also entries in the bios about 4500 something RPM so I do indeed think those fans can turn crazy fast. Let's put it that way....if I were to see that I would *need* to set the fan higher than 40% to keep temps decent I would certainly RMA the card. But as it seems, if they set the max for high temps in the BIOS to 34% I assume it's really supposed to run that slow.

Edit:

So, max temps I've ever seen on the card is 75/76 (Heaven Benchmark, BF4 etc.), this with my fan at 38% when it hits 75C. So there is likely never a reason to go higher than 40% since the card would only throttle at 80C or higher...so temps look good.
