This is not correct - all 6870s are over 9 inches, so that's not the card you want. Also, several 6850s are over 9 inches because they are built on 6870 PCBs. You should research this to make sure you don't get a card that is too big. All GTX460s that I have seen are on the shorter 8.25" PCB.

This article provides dimensions for 4 models of 6850 cards: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6850-eah6850-ax6850,2794.html

OK then it come back to GTX 460
I was thinking about one which has fan at the back which pushes Air from back face plates. However lot of people have complain it is noisy and run HOT.
Now one with the fan in the Middle appears to be quiet and cooler :hmm:
I guess I have to narrow down AR version in Evga

If you are not overclocking, noise and heat are not really going to be much of an issue. The 460 makes a fair amount of noise under full load, but in idle and desktop mode it is practically inaudible.

If you want EVGA, just get the EE version clocked @ 763 on the core. It is an AR. I doubt the noise and heat are 'bad'.

PNY's GTX 460 OC would be awesome as well if it was in stock. It is selling for $150 after MIR ($179 before), has the same clocks and same warranty. But, considering the rebate expires before the expected due back date, the rebate is going to be a bit sketchy on that one unless they extend it.

PS like the previous poster mentioned when overclocked on both cards, the 6850 takes up about 40W less at load while been faster than the 460 OCed.

No this is wrong.
A overclock gtx 460 vs a overclocked 6850 will result in a win for th 460 , but the gtx 460 uses 11 more watts under load, which is nothing.
We had a entire thread devoted to this and the conclusion was buy whichever was cheaper. Last I looked the gtx 460 was cheaper.

I think the only 6850 that kept power under control after overclocking was the ASUS DirectCu, which is why Ryan and the Anandtech staff liked the card so much. I'm not sure if the ASUS card was used in that 6850/460 overclock study you are referencing. Problem is for people with short cases that the card is over 10 inches long.

How much more power does a 760mhz GPU clock GTX460 use than stock 675mhz? How about 820mhz?

No, he is right, you are wrong. An overclocked 6850 (~1050MHz range) is significantly faster than an overclocked GTX 460 (925MHz range), sometimes in the order of 10-15%+ and will use less power to boot. The GTX 460 is cheaper for a reason.

But how much cheaper? If the 6850 is only 10 to 15% more expensive compared to the 460...

If you're using price/performance as the only metric of comparison then the GTX 460 wins out; The GTX 460 1GB's have been going for ~$155 while 6850's have been going for ~$190. However, I the perks of the 6850 more than justify the ~$10-15 premium here IMO. I've switched to putting 6850's in all my "gaming on a budget" builds over the GTX 460's.

But for $190, you can also get a GTX 470...and for the MSI one, there's an extra $35 rebate too.

But 6850 uses much less electricity and doesn't double as your room heater I guess.

I wouldn't touch XFX, because I don't trust their PCB.

There are few vendors that use red PCB or blue which is usually means its cheap. I mean the GPU is fine in there just the card itself , just like a cheap motherboard compared to quality of ASUS or GIGABYTE.

I think the 460 would be faster then the 6850 from what Ive read. Cuz a 6850 is essentially a 5850 with some design changes.. Less power drawn etc.

I work in the PCB manufacturing industry. Blue or Red LPI has no effect on the quality of the pcb, and is merely an option to differentiate ones self in the market. Basically 100% aesthetic reasons for making it green/blue/black/yellow/red etc.

Saying that blue or red pcb's mean that they are cheap is an ignorant statement.

Techreport shows 950 core 6850 (which = 6879)= 810 core 460

Yeah. Yeah you are. The pigment used to color pressed circuit boards has no effect on the quality of said board. It could be irridescent pink with Peuce polka dots if a vendor wanted to spend the extra dough on getting it that way.
The question is, why haven't they? :hmm:

Yeah the rising demand for Printed Circuit Boards in irridescent pink must be reaching a clamor! ;)

The gtx 460 is about 4% faster and runs much cooler and quieter and overclocks much better and more consistant.
Yes its worth the extra money.

Which is better and Why ?
I am torn between these two EVGA AR GTX 465 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 Vs EVGA AR GeForce GTX 460 EE 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
It cost me as follow
EVGA GTX 460 is 225 + 11.50 -30 ReBait ;)
EVGA GTX 465 is 200 + 11.50 - 40 ReBait ;)

And you could save yourself some money by going with this version of the GTX460: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814130565.

The EE version is louder and runs hotter. The only advantage is that slightly more heat is directed out of the case.

I need to get AR version; also I like EE cause it Exhaust out the Heat from the Case
and how in the World 465 is Slower
isn't Higher number mean FASTER ?
