my friend jus purchased an EVGA MX card to replace his TNT2 Ultra. now he is getting a lot of crashes during 3d games like quake3. his computer completely freezes. does anybody kno what is going on or sharing his same difficulties? did he just get a bad card? his MX card is not overclocked, but he has a dual celeron system, both 366@450. he has already tried it declocked, stuff still freezes. thanks in advance for any help.

Try the latest reference drivers.

Also, check to see if the heatsink on the card is hot when it crashes. IMO this card really needs a fan, especially if your case isn't cooled properly. I got one and it used to lock up occasionally. After I put another 80mm fan in my case and a spare 486 fan I had on the heatsink, it rarely crashes.

The EVGA brand cards are very chipset specific. They don't work well on VIA boards at times especially when the supplied current to the AGP slot is marginal. I had one that would not even POST on a VIA 694 board but ran fine on an Abit BE6-II. The Asus 7100 does not have this problem and is cheaper. Sell the E-Card and get an Asus or the Elsa.
