EVGA Announces the EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Classified!

- September 23, 2011 — Extreme Overclockers Vince "k|ngp|n" Lucido and Illya "TiN" Tsemenko are not satisfied with the overclocking capabilities of current generation graphics cards. They want overclocking capabilities and performance that exists beyond what is traditionally considered enthusiast level. and what psu can safely power a system with highly overclocked gtx580 quad sli? that would have to be over 2000 watts at those insane speeds.

I like evga but their product line, jeez...they have 20 different models of the same GPU.

I wish they made more cards with *good* custom coolers, most of their product line uses reference which isn't to my liking.

I've always thought that was one of their strongpoints. The NV reference coolers are normally well built, so it's nice to get one of those as opposed to the cheapest replacement the manufacturer could dig up.

I was thinking of aftermarket coolers such as a zalman or accelero +, quite a few GTX 580 board makers use those, which helps with high stable overclocks...such as the msi lightning or gigabyte super oc 580. Plus the reference fan still gets a little loud at load to my ears.

Not knocking EVGA, I have a few of their products, and they're definitely the best for SLI. And their warranty is of course top notch, can't beat them there.

Yup, plus all reviewers test the reference; you can't always tell how a custom one will work on that model.

I'll put it this way. The reference fan on my GTX 580 cause GPU temps up to 89C at load, at 850 GPU.

A galaxy GTX 580 with the accelero + custom cooler does not pass 55C at load, and has a quieter fan.

Thats why custom coolers are good, it gives you more overclock headroom - thats also why custom cooled cards such as the msi lightning, asus DC2 are consistently the highest overclockers. Again, not knocking EVGA, i've used numerous cards of theirs I just wish they had more custom cooled cards.

That has to be one of the ugliest looking cards I've ever seen. Compared to the ARES 2, it's looks like the Frankenstein of the video card world.

Just because it has a blower type fan, does not mean it's the reference cooler. Which was reviewed well. You can't see that this is a different design? The vapor chamber looks about 30% bigger.
As long as I can remember, EVGA makes a card like this for 3 and 4 way SLI, where getting the heat out of the case is very important. Depending on the case, you might be able to run 4 video cards dumping 300 watts of heat each in to your case but it would be tricky. This design starts with pushing some of the heat out the back.

Waiting to see some data on single-GPU temperature and noise. But for multi-GPU this is easily better than MSI TWIII.

Looks almost like the design for the 8800ultra.

Thought that color design was pretty sweet .

Looks like a card i would buy after all been buying mostly evga since the 8800gts and none have failed me.

Do love the asus triple slot gtx580 but after a mild overclock on a 560ti that went south and ruined the card,i believe the vrms or something aren't properly being cooled as to where iv'e done much better overclocks on a evga and it didn't give up the ghost.

If anyone wants to assure me the asus direct cu2 actually has all of the vrms properly cooled thats fine by me cause i was big about that design at first but idk now...

These will also be a limited product with a very high profit margin, so by the time Kepler come out(4-6 months?) these will have all be gobbled up by extreme overclockers and EVGA ends up nice profits. If they have a sizable supply of GF110 chips that run at extremely high speeds, why not create a product that allows them to charge a hell of a lot more for them.

- Still not fast enough for 2560x1600 on its own
- Fermi came out March 2010 (GTX480). So this makes this generation card about 1.5 years old now. $600 for a 1.5 year old card, which will likely fall from a pedestal within 3-6 months (HD7000/GTX680) seems like a huge waste of $.
- Personally, I'd rather take 2x GTX570 Classifieds for 1080P or 2x HD6950 2GB for 2560x1600 than 1 GTX580 Classified
- For $100 more, you can buy an HD6990.
