eVGA 8800GTX - heatsink / fan assembly different than reference pictures?

Just a strange concern - I don't think it's anything to worry about, but for a $650 piece of hardware, I figured I'd bring it up anyway.

I ordered my eVGA 8800GTX about a week ago. It came in an eVGA box, the fan has the eVGA sticker on it, but I noticed the rest of the heatsink and fan assembly don't look like any pictures of the eVGA 8800 series that I've seen.

Here is a good picture of the eVGA 8800GTX. You can see the "E" logo on the heatsink, along with other text. My card's heatsink looks exactly like this (minus the Biostar sticker on the fan). Note the green swirly design.

Did anyone else receive an eVGA card with a different design about it? I don't care about the cosmetics, I just want to make sure I got the right thing.

All the 8800 PCBs are made by the same manufacturer. For a price, they will place stickers for the purchaser (eVGA, BFG, XFX, etc.). There could easily have been a slight mixup or shortage of stock on stickers so that the assembly site did a little creative cross dressing of the boards. Later on, when NVIDIA allows some creative assembly for performance purposes, this type of thing will likely not happen. Until then, don't worry. They are all the same boards, anyway! Be happy. You got a unique 8800... ;)

Per what Kango said - ALL 8800's are manufactured currently by Asus, and then farmed out to the "resellers". You'll have to wait probably another 4 or 5 months before original designs start coming out.

The sticker on the Biostar is on every card, as it is the reference sticker that gets put on there at the factory. Judging from the look of my EVGA, it looks like there are actually two stickers on it - the same one as the one on your's and the EVGA sticker on top of it. You can actually see it in the picture you linked as well... See how the sticker on the EVGA looks thicker? They are also not 100% lined up, as you can see the top sticker is slightly more to the left than the bottom sticker, giving it a slight 'beveled' edge on the right.

Mine had a lot of 'edge fuzz' on it like that too, but the sticker is lined up much better than your's. The stickers look pretty tough though. They might not be that easy to remove, especially after the card has undergone a few heat cycles. The top sticker on mine had a slight gap where the heat sink slopes downward towards the fan area when I first got it (as if the sticker was a bit too tight), but it appears to have smoothed out with some heat.

There was another thread were someone mentioned that they got one without the EVGA sticker, but also didn't get Dark Messiah with it either... Did everyone who got the NV spec sticker get Dark Messiah with their card?

That was me (on a eVGA 8800GTS).

I've read that as well (@ the Inquirer I think), but then I read somewhere else that ASUS had just had a part in the design and that MSI are making the boards (like they have before).

Anyone know for sure?
