EVGA 8800GTX 768MB $299 AR with code @ the egg

jeeebus thats cheap!!!! I may return the 9600GT i just got and get this thing lol, too many good deals!!!!!

Tempting to get one to SLI with my current 8800GTX... but then I'd need a motherboard with 2x x16 (or at least 2x8) slots which would make it much more expensive.

What's the current deal with SLI on intel CPU/chipset motherboards -- if you have 2x8 or 2x16 fully functioning PCIE slots and a SLI bridge connector that goes between the top of the 8800GTX cards do you *NEED* any special "SLI SUPPORT" in the motherboard / chipset or can it work decently just with the PCIE slots and that card-top-bridge or what?

Still would rather go with the far cooler/power efficient G92 GTS with its much higher/easier OC head room, not have to mess with rebates, and still end up cheaper...although this is looking good, finally a reasonable price for a GTX. Hopefully this is an early sign that nVidia won't be excessively gouging for the 9800GTX and that they're trying to clear stock to pave way for the newer cards.

2x8 SLI slots still do not noticeably affect performance, and you need a motherboard with an nVidia chipset, although most all newer SLI motherboards are going to support 2x16 (basically you don't really need to worry about it as long as you know it supports it)

Wow, I hate rebates and I'm still tempted to do this deal... I have a BFG 8800 GTX OC already. Tempted to SLI these since I have an 850w Thermaltake tough power PSU, which should be enough horse power.

Great price, not quite low enough for me to bite right now. Already have an 8800GT and upgrading to this would end up costing $100+ and I'd rather wait for R700/GT200 and a true performance increase than gaining 20%.

Perfect for someone who wants to SLI though.

evga upgrade program makes this real tempting. I may have read wrong but from what I understand I can get a $300 credit for a newer card and use this for 90 days

You can, the problem is a new card almost never launches within that timeframe.

If you buy this card now, the 9800GX2 and 9800GTX should fall within your step-up, but whether or not they will be worth stepping up to is unknown at this point. The 9800GTX doesn't look to be much faster than the 8800GTX and the 9800GX2 will end up being $500+.

so if someones sitting on a sli board with 1 gtx, and it supports 3 Pci-e slots, then Nab two of these for 600. thats a two-fer on GTX'es!!!!

Man what a badass rig that would be... triple Gtx'es.

Been out of the loop for quite sometime since I bought the 8800GTS 640mb version.
Is this still one of thee fastest cards out there today?

A very tempting deal, given the lowest price for a GTX to date. However, considering that a $249 AR 8800GTS 512 gives more or less the same performance right up to ultra-high resolution, has the improved video display chip, uses less power and generates less heat, this card is not so attractive any more.

That's a very interesting comment.
I was going to pull the trigger then I read this and you've got a point.
Then the power & heat kills this deal for me.
Besides the card is way too long and needs two power pci-e 6 pin plugs.

Are you comparing this deal (which is actually the G80) to the new 9800 series?

I could have bought a 512MB BFG 8800GTX (G92) for $300 late last year, so this is not a hot deal at all.

There is no such thing as a GTX G92 yet.... your thinking of the G92 GTS 512.... Its normally 300ish online and 350 at B&M, its available now as low at 260 online and frys has deal on em for 229 AR for the weekend. This deal for a GTX is still amazing because of the frame buffer and its performance on big displays..
